Portsmouth away about 1985
8 hrs on the coach
pissed it down got soaked before game started
Got beat 2-0
Played awful
8hrs home

Flipping the other thread on its head, what's the worst away experience you've had.

Not in terms of result but the overall day. For me it was Everton away in 2017 under Simon Grayson in the League Cup. Travelled down by myself on a dry supporters bus, lost 3-0 and may as well not have showed up.

Everton won in first gear and there was about 400 SAFC fans down. Just an absolute waste of time from start to finish and one of those proper 'what am I doing with my life' kinda nights.
Southampton when we lost 8-0. Awful day.

Away to Hull, new years day 1990. Absolutely freezing, hungover, and we got beat.

That ground was an absolute shit hole.

Thibk it was an early KO that day too. My lasting memory is of being in queue for what passed as the food kiosk in the away end and a lad at the front turning round and shouting ‘There’s nee burgers and nee hot dogs and nee tea of coffee cos there’s nee hot watta’

Wolves away on a Sunday just as O’Neill was appointed was canny shite. 1-0 up, miss a penalty then lose 2-1.

Sunday away’s on Sky were always shit away days compared to the rest.

Stoke away midweek. Pissing down beyond belief to the extent we thought it would get called off. Coach got lost we got to the ground just before half time. We were getting beat and there were massive puddles all over the pitch with the ball not shifting at all. 3-0 Stoke back on the bus. I remember Lee Dixon playing for them and the full back that had a pacemaker scored for them.

97 Wimbledon 1 0 Sunderland , relegated, terrible day, even the streaker didn’t cheer me up. Felt flat as fuck after that, saw a mate who I hadn’t seen in a while and didn’t even go over, just wanted to get out the shithole place.

Oxford away 3 0 down at half time, can’t remember year, Smiths last game I think.

the 5 0 defeat to Coventry in cup, after the Bennet Speedie incident in 1st game.

went to West Ham on my birthday , midweek game , got beat 5 0, shit night.

Swindon away, shit weather, long shit journey, found out it was off when we got there.

ffs, I’m gonna be here all day

Out of every relegation that one hit me the hardest. I felt a limited team had worked their socks off to get 40 points but were shit on the day. The Coventry cup tie was compounded by Billy Hardy getting smashed in a world title fight.
Barnsley away 2-0 getting grit from a building site blown in our faces fir 90 minutes and England 35 for 8 in the cricket when we got back to the car.

got to be the Chelsea away match in august 1979. 0-0 but remembered for the trouble before, during and especially after. me and a mate were told by police to turn left out of the ground and walking down a street when chelsea ran at us.
utter chaos trying to escape fighting al ower, we ended up in willesden junction. pretty rough area at the time.tube train smashed up on way back to kings cross. a was only 17 and mother saw it on the 10'oclock news. no mobiles then so she had to wait til i got home
before she knew we were alreet.

The Charlton play off couple of seasons ago stands out for me. Just a bit of a grim weekend and had a feeling the whole time we’d get beat. Of course we go on to lose the way we did. Then to top it all off got stuck in the middle of all the charlton fans waiting for the tube. Although tbf it was nice to see some proper fans enjoying what little things clubs like ours and charlton get to enjoy

Plenty where we’ve got pumped or ive had a raging hangover and we’ve got pumped…
But the 3-0 quarter final away to Hull boiled my piss. Poyet put out the worse team he could have and every player looked like they couldn’t give a fuck.

5-2 v Peterborough (94 I think) was pretty bad. Think it was a Sunday as well?

5-1 v mags. Left at HT.

6-1 v villa on a Monday night. Decided to go last minute after we beat the mags 3-0. Back on the motorway before full time. Horrible day.

Can't believe I'm saying this but.... believe it or not.. Macclesfield Town !!
Travelled through from Liverpool where I worked at the time,so see Phillips make his debut in this friendly.
The locals were feckin horrendous !! Every bugger wanted to pick a fight...not what I come to expect from leafy Cheshire !!
