Flipping the other thread on its head, what's the worst away experience you've had.

Not in terms of result but the overall day. For me it was Everton away in 2017 under Simon Grayson in the League Cup. Travelled down by myself on a dry supporters bus, lost 3-0 and may as well not have showed up.

Everton won in first gear and there was about 400 SAFC fans down. Just an absolute waste of time from start to finish and one of those proper 'what am I doing with my life' kinda nights.

Mine was an almost away day before the start of the great escape in the 2014 season against Man city. Decided to go for some unkown reason even though there was next to no hope of a result. Got onto the M62 and it was truly lashing down and gale force winds. Traffic was at a standstill almost and we spent 3 hours getting battered. Eventually got 10 miles from the ground and heard on the radio that the game was called off. It took another hour to reach a junction to turn around and head home, all for FA.
On the plus side we went to the rearranged game for the 2-2 at the start of the great escape.

Too many to pick just one.

It was those long bus and car journeys home after another loss that finished my travelling away.

It just wore me down.

Brighton away play off semi’s.
Lost first leg 1-0.
Back to the Withdean, an absolute shite hole of a ground. Rained all evening.
Pulled goal back then into Extra Time. Took the lead, time was up and all we needed to do was launch it upfield one more time.
They got a throw in, still see it now and Adam Virgo (bastard) got his head to it taking it into pens.
We always lose on pens and did so.

Brighton fans were arseholes taunting us on the pitch.
Devastated for days as became Friends with Andy King the Manager at the time.
Absolute silence in that car driving home.

I honestly don't think I've had a bad one as I've always had a good laugh regardless of the result.

But I do remember playing Carlisle in the FA Cup 3rd round in the mid 90s. We drew 1-1 at Roker and I went to the replay at Brunton Park with the Shields branch. I cant remember why but the bus couldn't park in the car park.

Anyway we hammered them 3-1 but near the end of the game the tannoy came on with a message for the Sunderland Shields branch supporters that our bus was parked on a street just outside the ground - cue a huge roar from the home end!!!

As you can imagine there were pitch battles around the bus and at one point Flanny was chasing a few off with a traffic cone. Bastards broke the air brakes on the bus though and we had to crawl home at 30mph. Took us about 6 hours to get back!!!

Always hated Tranmere away. Something always happens. Tyres on the minibus slashed and nearly kicked to shit by a 9 foot knuckle dragging meat-eating in the pub while waiting for replacement bus (lost 1-0 to boot). Is probably the one that stands out. Others include some mag trying to fight us in the black bull in Kirby Steven because we said something about hartlepool, running out of petrol at West Auckland on the way home and getting a parking ticket. Don't think I've ever seen us win there either

Smoggies v Hull 2009. Nowhere to go pre or post match as an away fan, Smoggy ***** kicking off outside pre and post match, lost 3-1 and Marlon King scored for them. Not been back since

Notts County away, the (almost) relegation game. What a bunch of Spineless Cowards. Ian Rogerson sticks out for some reason. Stayed up, but still went home feeling empty after having watched that lot cower.
This one for me ☝🏼
One of the worst displays I’ve ever witnessed, and there have been lots

Grimsby away early 90's.
Game called off after a few minutes due to snow. On our way back home my car engine seized and we had to wait 2 hours in the freezing cold with no heat - smashing

We did that one. We had the radio on in the car and it kept saying all these matches had been postponed but ours was still on so we kept going. Several times on the M62, it was down to single lane and the snow came on so heavy that everyone just stopped and then got out and scraped theirs cars. We got to Grimsby late, parked the car and had just reached the ground when everyone started coming back out again saying it was postponed. Had a hot drink and battled our way back home again.
