Worrying

Fair enough on the goals, was just trying to emphasise that he'd had a good season.

Listen, if there was a quality left back available and we brought someone in to the club then fair enough, drop Bardsley or move him over to the other side. But its the wanting of Richardson at left back that i just dont understand, can he defend? not for me. One that sticks in my memory is the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford where he (probably) cost us 2 points by his neive pull back of the United winger (Valencia?) when he was already on a yellow card. Stupid.

He kicked the ball away and wasn't playing at left back, IIRC.

But that's just one occasion. What about last season when he had Adam Johnson in his pocket? Does that not seem like an improvement from past mistakes.

I could easily point to the times where Bardsley was raped by Matt Phillips and Matt Jarvis to counter the argument that he's excellent defensively.

He was playing left back but you're right, the second yellow came from kicking the ball away.

It was the season before last though, wasn't it? Either way, the second booking had fuck all to do with him playing left back. It was just petulance.

I dare say i share the view of plenty of other posters, you seem incaple of engaging in a constructive discussion about safc or any other debates on here
The majority of my posts in this thread have been constructive. You're the one who has started talk of people being clowns and idiots.

It was aye. As much as I like him as a footballer he is a bit of a cock at times. Seem to remember him getting booked last season for taking the piss out a referee.

Fair points, both players have their perks and their faults. I can understand why people would prefer Richardson, hes left footed, has more pace and is class on the overlap (Spurs at home the previous year iirc), can get forward well etc. But its purely just the injuries for me more than anything, he will never play a long enough succession of games for me to be able to hold down one position long term. Hes been here over 5 years and has yet to do this

I remember that too. He definitely has a petulant streak. At least he is competitive though. He isn't a great tackler but his energy, stamina and ability to get up and down the pitch make him an ideal candidate for left back, as Bruce himself spotted.

My mistake, your right it was kicking the ball away. I knew it was the season before like

You do make a good point about Richardson's fitness and inability to string together enough consecutive appearances, but worryingly, you could say that about a number of our key players.

Having a right footer on the left wing/midfield is totally different to having one at left back.

Even the least knowledgeable football fan should be able to understand this.

Wasnt Chris Makin left footed and he didnt do a bad job as right back

Defensively with the signings we've made we can afford to give Richardson a licence to bomb on in most games, which we may need to to provide width. That side of his job will be more important than defending.

I thought it was a bit of humour, placed the ball out of play iirc? Refereeing has become to robotic, nee room for common sense or a bit of humour.
