Agree regarding O'Shea. I'd actually be very disappointed if we wasted his undoubted ability and influence by playing him at left back. I'd rather use Bardsley there, begrudgingly.
I agree about not wanting to play O'Shea there mind, I'd much rather see him at CB or RB but if it was a choice between him and Bardsley I'd still go for JOS. As things stand my order of preference would be:

First Choice - Richardson
Cover - O'Shea
Emergency - Ferdinand
No other options - Bardsley

I'd want O'Shea first choice in a position, probably central defence, and wouldn't want to disrupt any partnership he builds by moving him to cover full back. Ferdinand, who I quite like, would be my third choice behind Richardson as first choice and Bardsley as second.

Era's shouldnt have anything to do with it, you either cant play at left back or can. Bardsley proved last year he can

Absolute bullshit. Tactics have evolved dramatically since then. If we are going to play 4-3-3, we desperately need an attacking, left footed left back.

Yes, but he was right footed all the same. You didnt respond to my earlier point btw of your crazy suggedtion to play Richardson at left back

Crazy suggestion?

He started last season as our 1st choice left back and would have remained there but for injury. He started last season well at left back.

There you go mate, the key point. Its always the same with Richardson, 'if it wasnt for his injuries'. I do tend to agree, he was decent, Man City at home in paticular where he was tremendous. But it never lasts, half a dozen games and hes on the treatment table. At least we know Bardsley will always turn out and be relatively consistant. He was class last year, 3 superb goals, excellent defensively, and the heart of a lion. All my opinion of course and you have your views too.

Unless they're an exceptional talent then in the modern game they can't. Or at least not particularly effectively.

Idiot

Of those 3 goals, the best was a free kick and the second best came from him playing right back. The goal against Chelsea was pretty woeful goalkeeping/defending IIRC.

Bardsley gives us no width from left back and given the way things are shaping up, that is going to be absolutely crucial this season.

I think he's far from being excellent defensively, on the right or left.

As for his goals 1 came when he was playing right back, 1 from a set piece the other from left back so his goals prove nothing regarding where he should be playing in the side.

Fair enough on the goals, was just trying to emphasise that he'd had a good season.

Listen, if there was a quality left back available and we brought someone in to the club then fair enough, drop Bardsley or move him over to the other side. But its the wanting of Richardson at left back that i just dont understand, can he defend? not for me. One that sticks in my memory is the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford where he (probably) cost us 2 points by his neive pull back of the United winger (Valencia?) when he was already on a yellow card. Stupid.
