Worrying performance

Hopefully that will happen. I think some people are a bit disappointed that despite getting our transfer business done as early as I can ever remember, we didn't seem a bit more settled. And a few of us mentioned the lack of preseason games against reasonable opposition. Surely with so many new faces that increases the need to play a few more games, work on partnerships etc? Did Ji or Roberge even play a game for us before yesterday for example?
Disagree, I think we did look comfortable. We were passing the ball well and moving until the final third. Then we fell short there like we usually do.

Roberge had played for us, ji hadn't due to injury.

We looked great? But we failed to test their keeper. The aim of the game as you know is to score. Something we regularly struggle to do, no matter who is in charge it seems.
We didn't create much but he was tested, pulled out a great save from celustka and it was great goalkeeping to smuggle the dodgey bounce to altidore.

Been reading the forum tonight and am a little surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction. Don't get me wrong; our overall performance was okay, we looked a bit smarter and more attractive than last season under MoN, and we were the better side.

But we created three proper chances, the rest were pot shots. We look toothless and this is a against a piss poor Fulham side who would have been elated with a point. Worth remembering they let us control the match, so any raving about us for been so good needs tempering by this.

Certainly not disaster, but more to worry about than be excited about, for me (especially with our run of games up to Christmas). No doubt I'll be slated for this, but it's the way I see it :-/
Compared to last season, it was a ten fold improvement for me.

They have played one PL game together. Almost half the team were playing their first game in this league. Start forming an opinion after a run of games. I seriously can't believe some of the comments on here. Do people on here actually go to, or watch the team?

I meant quality all over the pitch. You don't just sign quality for one area. You try to get quality players in the goalkeeping, defence, midfield, on the wing and in attack. And certainly PDC tried as best he could to buy players who were good in most areas of the pitch. Never mind, eh.[DOUBLEPOST=1376811657][/DOUBLEPOST]

I saw a 100% improvement. We had 52% passing to the 48% of Fulham. We had 20 shots to Fulham's 5. That should mean we had four times as many shots as Fulham since four multiplied by five will get you twenty. Yet we were still unable to win. Anyone else would have won the game comfortably. Why can't we?
Scientific fact hey ;)

How many games? People keep saying how comfortable we looked, how fulham didn't threaten, but lets not forget jol didn't get to play any of his hand due to enforced substitutions. Ruiz, rodellega and bent never got off the bench. As it turns out they werent even needed. The ref could have blown for time on 75 minutes yesterday as everybody knew the game was up

I saw plenty of positives, but it's very clear we need our creative midfielder. The most worrying thing for me was the choice of substitutions. I felt Moeberg Karlsson should have come on at some point.

No worse than the people who insist we battered Fulham and dominated the game.

We controlled possession (which they were happy to let us do), but at no stage did I think we were massively on top. The lack of pace is what worries me the most still.

I agree with this,

Giaccherini looked slow, Sessegnon was useless, Larsson was plodding along and unfortunately Johnson went home without an assist to his name!

Three shots on target at home to Fulham is just not good enough!

We've played one game, even if we'd won yesterday , it wouldnt have been any sort of reflection on the season we"ll have. What yesterday demonstrated was an intention to play a type of football the majority of us have been hoping for for a long time, give the lads a chance before you drown in a pool of your own piss for crying out loud.

It is hard to see where the 'breakthrough' will be....however less pressure away from home and we must tough out results.....the same way that Fulham did....

Agreed.

Same old, same old. A poor side turns up to play us and we cant score and cant win. Its been like this for years. We looked toothless up front and what surprised me is that PDC never changed things around after say 70 minutes when it clearly wasnt working. Two of our best games under PDC have been against NUFC and Everton where we allowed them to come on to us and caught them on the break.

Fulham basically sat back and soaked up some pretty innocuous attacks.

PDC has to think more on his feet and be more flexible with his tactics to adapt to the changing situation of the game or this season will end up looking pretty much like last year.

Ji came on for Sess on the stroke of the 70th minute

Fulham put men behind the ball and defended. At the start of the season, it's not a bad tactic if you're well organised and don't make any mistakes. We did it at the start of last season and ended up making a decent start to the season. Palace did something similar to Spurs today and they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities before the penalty. Things aren't going to be magically click into place straight away, especially if you're playing a team who were happy to play deep and were willing to settle for a point.

A worrying performance would be on like Hull's first half just there.

I know they are playing Chelsea but they did not look like even getting the ball let-alone attacking.

my take on it is we did play well without the finishing , we should have had a few more pre season games so the new lads could get to know the game better but thats by the by now , think we look promising and with the introduction of a quality cm and an attacking left back and the retun of Fletcher and Brown i reckon we will have a good season

..and how did the tactics change? What exactly did PDC expect to happen by changing one player for another and keeping the tactics the same? Why huff and puff for 90 minutes with the same tactics when its clear after 70 that it isnt working?
