Worrying performance

Been reading the forum tonight and am a little surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction. Don't get me wrong; our overall performance was okay, we looked a bit smarter and more attractive than last season under MoN, and we were the better side.

But we created three proper chances, the rest were pot shots. We look toothless and this is a against a piss poor Fulham side who would have been elated with a point. Worth remembering they let us control the match, so any raving about us for been so good needs tempering by this.

Certainly not disaster, but more to worry about than be excited about, for me (especially with our run of games up to Christmas). No doubt I'll be slated for this, but it's the way I see it :-/

Our main source of spark may as well not have turned up. He was very poor, altidore was basically doing 2 jobs through the middle and we had nobody there who even created a chance.

We looked great in the first half, but didn't build on it.

I think it'll be a struggle of the season, but also that we have enough quality to improve on last season.

I'm not worried, but my typical pre-season wild optimism has been put back in its box very early this year.

My main concern is our next run of 6 or 7 games at home, we'll be lucky to get 3 points! Shall be tough going into the Christmas period.

What did you expect us to do, go and and thump Fulham by 3 or 4 goals?[DOUBLEPOST=1376781126][/DOUBLEPOST]

What are your thoughts on di canio? Can he cut the mustard at this level? I'm not convinced he knows what to do to change a game when we go behind. I like his passion and all that, but does he have any genuine credentials? That's my main worry

We will be better after the international break. Need our final signings in, Fletch back and more time gelling. That's a month away so lots of time.

The fixtures don't help, as soon as the home run ends we play all the big boys away. I don't think we'll build up any kind of decent winning runs this year but should have enough. Getting points from the next two is quite important.

I hoped that we wouldn't get beat off Fulham at home.
The way you said 'wild optimism' you make it sound as if you were expecting us to take the league by storm for a change.
Plenty of time, I think if we can get a LB and creative CM in to partner Cabral, we may just get it right.

Encouraging first half, poor second.Crap defending by Roberge for goal but apart from that the back 5 had absolutely nowt to do. Fulham came for a draw and got the win! Didn't think we responded well to going behind at all. Wouldn't say we created a really clear cut chance. Only real positives were Johnson and Giacherrini. Need at least another midfielder and full back.

for all the possession that performance got less points than Oneils park you bus performances.

PDC can talk and I do admire what he trying to do, but I think we will struggle.

I thought we might be able to draw at least. Jesus, if asking for anything more than edging a point at home to Fulham - a notoriously woeful team on their travels - is too big an ask then we might as well all f***ing give up and resign ourself to our gloomy fate right here and now.

Plenty of positive signs today, along with a healthy dose of realism.

Fulham have a better side than us though

Didn't think we responded well to going behind at all. .

But surely that is precisely when a good manager comes into his own. Reacting when the opposition score a goal...make a substitution...change their tactics. Have to be able to react during the game. From the moment fulham scored, we'd lost today. What did we do differently after we fell behind?

Not every team comes and parks the bus though. A lot of teams struggle to break down 10 men behind the ball, non more so than a team without a player capable of breaking said team down. I think we'll do better away from home against a lot of teams when the onus is on them to attack us more being the home team. We showed against Spurs in Hong Kong we do well on the break.
