Why would you prefer Zimbabwe over Ireland for ‘the sake of the game’? Afghanistan, who have underperformed terribly this tournament, recently walloped them 4-1 where the only close match was the one Zimbabwe won. Ireland, on the other hand, beats Afghanistan more often than not. How is a weaker team making it to the World Cup better for the game?
I should have been more specific, meant the game in Zim and WI. They both need a boost and qualification will help stem the tide there. Ireland and Afghanistan are fine, they've got Test Matches to look forward to soon.

Hopefully getting rid of Mugabe will encourage more teams to tour Zim and a few more cricketing ex-pats to return to play.

Windies struggling here.

Yep, things will really open up if Afghanistan pull this one off... 5 down now

Afghanistan 52/2 chasing WI's 194. What a result that would be if they pull this off! Opens things up quite a bit.
UAE are 83/3 chasing Scotland's 322. They started brightly, openers putting up 60-odd at better than run a ball before losing three quick wickets. 322 is likely a bridge too far
Nepal 115/4 beat PNG 114 by 6 wickets to move to the 7th place playoff and a step closer to gaining ODI status. PNG have lost their ODI status.
HK are 51/3 chasing Dutch 174. If HK lose, Nepal gets ODI status. If HK win, then winner of 7th place between HK and Nepal gets ODI status. Nothing in it for the dutch other than pride. Their ODI status is safe

90 needed from 21 overs with 7 wickets left for Afghanistan. No. 3 Shah going well alongside Nabi. Low scoring game but should coast it against a WI side with no genuine wicket takers

30 from 42 with 5 wickets now!

In other news, Dutch beat Hong Kong by 44 wickets, which means that Nepal can finish no lower than 8th. Nepal has gained ODI status!

Well that should be a good kick in the teeth for WI
Wonder how they react
Wonder if Afghanistan can win out against Ireland and UAE and sneak into the World Cup

Just looked at the super 6 table on Cricinfo and it appears as though all teams are starting at 0 points. Afghanistan and Scotland have 2 points and WI/UAE have none. What happened to points being carried over from the group stage or did I imagine that?

You didn’t. Cricinfo just needs to get their shit together.

Look through the page instead. Much better info

Looks like cricinfo fixes their issue now

Scotland v Ireland.

Ireland 271-9

Competitive score I feel despite the collapse from 183-2 in the 38th. Massive game particularly for Scotland.

For both. Ireland don’t win this, the tournament is effectively over for them. For Scotland a win would mean they are really really close to qualification

WI - Zimbo massive tomorrow.

Looks like Zimbo qualifies for the WC with a win, and Windies would basically but not officially have a wrap on things if they get it done.

Yes Zimbabwe are just about there. Even if they lose tomorrow they'll still have another go against UAE. WI v Scotland will be the decider for the other place whatever the result between Zim and WI. Think Ireland can only make it if 2 out of Zim, WI and Scotland pick up no more wins

Well, that’s that then

WI and Zimbabwe now both control their fates. Both need a victory in their remaining game to go through. Scotland and UAE respectively.

Don’t see UAE beating Zimbabwe, Scotland may yet prove a banana peel for WI and open the door for themselves, Afghanistan or Ireland.

Windies made 198

Scotland are 33 for 3 off 8.1

Callum MacLeod is not out 6 off 14
