World Book Day (yesterday)

Quick one, did anyone send, or see other parents send their kids to school in a Sunderland strip?

It was world book day, not wear what you want day.
Loads of people push the envelope and dress up as film /TV characters because of course that media lends itself very well to costumes - and usually there are stories written about films afterwards too (of course, many films are adaptions of books in the first place).

But I've seen a fair few people on facebook where they've sent their kids in wearing barcode kits, which I find bizarre.

I saw one in a Newcastle strip who had a book called “when I grow up I want to play for Newcastle”.

It’s all good though. The idea is it is a bit of fun to encourage kids to read more so no harm done you miserable sod.

But it's been taken over by parents wanting to get the social media likes. Like the three year old yesterday dressed as Prince Harry or the kid who was dressed up as the bloke out of Fifty Shades. They have no clue what book it's referring to and will have had no choice in the outfits. With the likes of Spiderman you at least know the kid has had some input.
There was some brilliant stuff happening yesterday and anything that gets kids reading is a positive but some adults have to make it about themselves.

Aye but that not really anyone else’s problem other than theirs and happens in almost every situation these days. Read it and move on.

I saw more Declan Rices than I would have imagined.

Daughter went as a young witch from one of her favourite books but spent the day explaining she wasn’t Wednesday Addams.

It’s the in thing at the minute.

Daughter number one went as Hermione, not very original as every second child was a HP character.

Daughter number two went as Alice from AiW.

In years gone buy we’ve made a bit of an effort, both buying and making costumes for characters from some classic children’s books such as Stickman, the Gruffalo and Harry Potter. We’ve mocked and looked down on those dressing as comic book characters and superheroes.

Yesterday’s we let our 7 year old get his own way and he went as Ronaldo.

Saw lots of Wednesdays yesterday 🤷🏻‍♂️

School normally has a "no football strips" rule on non-uniform days.

Still see loads of movie/tv show versions of characters on World Book Day, was told there were a few Wednesday's in the school, whilst Addams Family might have started as a comic it was blatantly a tv show costume.
