Work going on Cliffe Park

Between the tram shelter that's being converted and the white lighthouse looks like summit going on, anyone got an idea what?

They've dug up a load of top soil and have tons of paving slabs there but I can't imagine why they'd replace the grass with slabs, unless it's foundation work for something.. I'll reserve me WDSC/ worrabout me bins/shipyards! until finding out a bit more.

Is it not just spoil from working in front of the tram shelter? I saw it at the weekend and figured they were working on getting utilities to the shelter for the redevelopment.

I remember seeing some before Xmas (been away for ages) and said the same to me mate but it's been expanding and expanding further away from the shelter and there's huge mounds of earth which I don't know why they'd dig so far away. Maybe it's something to do with pipes or power or whatever but none of it is that close to the shelter
A new Picky Tea restaurant?
Councillor @Boris Bear will know the score.

Isn't @Wilfy the former mayor of SR6? Until I come along obviously.

Cycle lane

Was supposed to be an improved cycle lane, footpath and pedestrian crossings along that stretch. Presume its for that.

They're putting in bigger trees than you did 😁

Nice one cheers! I'd googled a bit about building work and plan ing permission around seaburn/cliffe park but never found that. WDSMB
Aye plans been in ages but got a letter other day to tell me about distruption and issues getting to house.

Sunderland City Council has received further funding from Active Travel England to allow construction of a new dedicated two-way cycle track along the A183 Whitburn Road.
The project will use existing space to separate pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, while maintaining the two-way flow of traffic along the seafront.
Separating cyclists and pedestrians and installing a number of new pedestrian crossings will enable more people to safely access key recreational hotspots like Roker Park and Cliff Park and help more visitors enjoy the city's natural assets like Roker and Seaburn beaches.

Work is scheduled to commence on Monday 9 January 2023, with traffic Management arrangements to be put in place to help minimise disruption.
Works will be split into two phases:

Phase 1 will start in January and work will take place from the Tram Shelter to Roker Ravine Bridge. Work will then stop while the city hosts the World Triathlon Championship Series at the end of July 2023.

Phase 2 of the works will be programmed in shortly after the summer holidays to help reduce congestion and disruption during the busy summer period.

All works are anticipated to be complete by Spring 2024.
