Someone can be in a high dudgeon, but never just in a dudgeon.

Someone else can be hoist with their own petard. A petard never occurs anywhere else but in the context of self-hoisting.

Very odd.

Neil Dudgeon, current star of Midsomer Murders, may have other ideas.

According to the dictionary, dudgeon is "a feeling of offence or deep resentment". I'm assuming that high dudgeon is "a feeling of offence or deep resentment brought on by particularly strong weed".
