Shocking picking Tredwell who couldn't get in the Kent side last year and was loaned out. He's 33 now so isn't going to improve much at all. Hope Rashid plays
Totally agree. How can Tredwell be picked for England when he can't get in Kent's 4 day side ?
Riley preferred to Tredwell in the longer form of the game.
What have the selectors been watching ?

Disgusted at the inclusion of Trott and the talk of him opening. What the fuck are people thinking?

Adam Lyth scored 1500 runs as an opener last season and has done everything he possibly can to earn a spot. He MUST open with Cook. Trott has never opened for anyone before - why the round pegs in square holes route?

As for 3, Ballance has deservedly got that sewn up. Same with the 4/5 spots. So unless he's in for his bowling I don't see where he plays.

England selectors piss me off the majority of time like. The bloke played Half a season of county cricket and they still don't know what his mental state is. At 33 I don't think its a very good choice to bring him back. KP is a year older and the same people who want Trott in say he's too old.

f***ing vile decision.

Nice to see Wood and Stokes in like, I assume Rashid is only in because it's likely to turn a bit owa there.

Really not sure why Trott has come back in all honesty but there we go. Lyth opening is a no brainer.

Chuffed for Wood being a DCCC lad but otherwise I'm a tad unsure on that one.....

How can you be annoyed with the Trott decision but happy with the Wood one? What has Wood achieved in the first class arena over the last season or two?

Its a squad so even if Trott doesn't play, he is a hell if a back up to have. A small tour that will test his mental health and if he comes through it great. If not, his international career is over and everyone can move on

They are taking a punt on Wood because there is nobody else and he has got decent pace and can swing it. If they took it on county form they would be selecting someone like Masters or Rushworth who bowl at 75mph. It is the same as Rashid selection, there is not one quality spinner in the country who takes wickets.

It contradicts what Brandon says though. Either people are picked on Merit or not. Can't have a go at picking a batsman but ok to have a gamble on a bowler

I'm happy they have picked both. Onions would have been a safer choice but England are looking for the future with regards to bowlers

f***ing hell mate, you normally talk some sense, but this is absolute utter shite.

Trott is an international class batsman, one of the best in the country by an absolute mile, as long as he is mentally fit, he has to play.

The bit in bold is just laughable

They are taking a punt on a batsmen, Trott. At the end of the day they can do as many test on his mental health as they like but it still comes down to Trott saying he is ready mentally to play international cricket.

Exactly, he will play, and rightfully so, if we have any chance of beating Australia then we will need someone like Trott

people forget how good a player he has been for England, outstanding, and he wasn't well.

He is well worth another go, its a no brainer for me.

Yes of course, but he didn't know what was wrong with him, he has been diagnosed and has has treatment. He may well feel like he doesn't enjoy it like he thought he would, but he is without doubt worth a risk. If it doesn't work out, then thats fine, move on.

Adam Lyth scored runs? He goes in the squad, but Trott should be ahead of him based on what he has done for England.

Don't see how because a lad scores 1500 runs in one championship season he should suddenly be guaranteed opening for England.

Double standards.

A retrograde step. Australia will all over him like a cheap suit. Their foot will be on his throat and they'll keep it there. Good luck to him, though. He'll need all the luck he can get.

Aye they would be shitting themselves with Adam Lyth opening like

Trott has had more success against Australia than failures

You forget this.

Not a comment on Lyth at all. Merely reminding you what you already know will happen.

Picking Trott in my opinion just shows how much we are struggling at the minute. Lyth for me is not international class. I may well be proved wrong, and he did make a lot of county runs, I just don't see him having that ability to make the step up. You could argue nobody deserves a chance more than him though.

Trott for me shouldn't be anywhere near the side. I have a funny feeling he will make runs over there on slow flat decks as he often does, t hen come the summer when Trent Boult and then Mitch Johnson get it up his nose he won't want to know again. Yes, there is more to his issues than just cricket, but I think he was shown up massively against pace last year, and unless he has done a significant amount of work to combat this, he will be in bother again.

Wood for me is a fair enough pick. Granted no majorly great county stats, but he bowls 90+ and swings it. I have argued before that county stats are only a small part of the selection process, and it should be about ability to step up and perform in high pressure situations. The only thing that worries me with Wood is his poor fitness record.

ah right, so 2 bad tests and his outstanding test record is just forgotten, and he has been "found out"

was interesting to see all the Australia batsman "found out" in Pakistan last year too

only on the f***ing SMB

how did Trott do the time before that in Australia? that counts for nothing, sorry I forgot.

Nobody doubts Trotts ability and he probably is still a test class batsmen, but he is being picked for this tour with a view to playing him in the Ashes series. Thats when the test will come to see if he is still up to the job mentally and technically. Personally i just don't want to see the lad collapse again, what happened in Brisbane was very sad. An Ashes series is one of the few times that England cricketers come under huge national scrutiny by media and casual cricket fans.

Trott is indeed excellent at cashing in against average sides IMO. That last Australian series you mention, the Aussies were all over the shop. Johnson couldn't hit the cut strip. As soon as anything gets remotely above 90mph with a hint of accuracy the white flag was out.

You're turning into a bit of a patronising arse on this thread fella
