Wind storms (again)

Left home at 4pm yesterday. Got to Heathrow hotel at 1am.

Delays on train due to a couple of stops for trees on the line and a long wait for a replacement train crew who were delayed on another train due to a shed on the line!

I put this on the thread about things you've just learnt a while ago. In the days of steam this wouldn't have been a problem cos trees weren't allowed to be planted close to railway lines. The sparks coming out of the engines chimney made them a fire hazard.

Similar thing happened to me years ago in Washington. It was a bit breezy and two of us were putting up site huts on some waste land. The roof kept lifting as we were trying to tie it down so my mate says put your weight on top and I'll tie it down. Just as I did a gust lifted the roof and me up in the air and I landed in an iced over pond full of bricks about 20ft away. I had to go to hospital for stitches to a cut in me hand, the sheds were still there the next day.
Arwen literally knocking houses down up here. Nowt like that this time darn sarf. Few trees away and that's about it.
Those northern tradesmen aren't very good are they.
122mph gust off The Needles, highest ever recorded windspeed in England ... ever. Eunice wins.

In the past March has always been considered the month of winds as the seasons change from winter to spring. With global warming I think we're seeing the March winds starting in mid February now. Windy again today down in PO8.
