The Speakman debate can go on for as long as you want so I might swerve that

I don’t know how many other clubs have someone in Speakmans position who have played at a high level but I don’t think it’s something that’s integral to success. I’m not sure I could name many in that position who are hugely successful and have played at a high level either. I’ve genuinely never heard of Bo Svensson, Rene Maric or whoever the latest name was linked yesterday. Only one I was mildly aware of was Still but to be honest every single managerial appointment can go either way. People didn’t want Mowbray and it worked out, Alex Neil was underwhelming for many and it worked out. Everyone unanimously wanted Martin O’Neill and that didn’t work out. The type of coach the owners want means it’s going to be someone relatively unproven who’s young and has a certain way of playing, anyone in that bracket is a gamble imo.
