Will Still - Lens Manager

Call me a cynic, but I'm fairly certain that his mind would have been made up based on Lens playing Champions League football, and offering more money, rather than SAFC having Dodds as a coach.

It's borderline ridiculous to think otherwise.
Lens are only in the conference league this upcoming season. I say "only" as if it wouldn't be a dream come true for me to go to a SAFC europa conference game.

Lens have said they still have a selection process with multiple managers in mind. Suggests it's not as 'done deal' as was reported.

Mind, it can't come as a surprise they're playing coy with it. They're not going to announce it's him until it's 100% done.

I still think he's gone to Lens.
Gone to lens but hasn’t. Ok.

Bloody hell If I’m a lens fans I’m miserable after reading that. They have massive fears over tv deal and need a conservative budget as a result. They also won’t be spending as much as last year.

Quite weird for an incoming DoF to be so gloomy, setting expectations low so he can easily meet them?

It was Naz's club that were playing hard ball, not Naz, wasn't it?

I think if we get a decent holidng midfielder this Summer, we'll see the best of him this season. It'll allow our attacking/creative players to play a lot more freely, and he should get more opportunities.
I think he wants to come here, but wants assurances to back room staff and maybe some say in player incomings/outgoings. He may want some experience among the first team, which goes against what the clubhas been doing recently.

If I was a head coach with any reputation, I'd be asking the same things from the club. Is he just supposed to roll up and let Speakman and Dodds do their thing?....f#ck that.

Hopefully, IF discussions are still ongoing, it means taht Still has made the club bend on the model on which they've been so focused on and thats seen us go backwards recently.
In all fairness, the reason it has taken this long is because Still is/was the guy. Hence why he stuck Reims on the back burner and ultimately left/got sacked.

It’s only since the rest of Europe have fancied a change in manager that has thrown complications. We’ve literally thrown everything we can at the guy including knocking Dodds and Co Down the pecking order.

The club haven’t ballsed this up, they’ve just ran out of runway on what is viable. It doesn’t mean it isn’t enough though.
I think Will Still has been the club's target since the very start. Probably since before Beale was appointed. Speakman and the owners wrote the season off in January, turned the out of office on, and went for an early summer holiday, all while taking everyone's season ticket money in full. They absolutely have to get their man if they're going to do that and it looks like they're not going to.

The club has royally balled this up through being naive.

If the terms are that Dodds and Proctor have to stay, then the club is being stubborn, but they wouldn't want to upset the golden egg that is Jobe Bellingham.

The alternative being touted in a no-mark from St Mirren. I'm sure the bloke would put his all into the Sunderland job if he got it because it'd feel like a lottery win to him, but we can't seriously say he'd be a good appointment on the face of it.

So it looks like we are waiting on Still or Lens to decide whether they want him or not? All whilst we look on hoping Lens don't go for him, not sure that is the right thing to do. If he wanted to be here, he would have took the job, his mind is on Lens, not sure I would want him after that. I want someone who is going to be committed and do well here, I have the feeling his eye will be wandering elsewhere in a few months down the line.

We’ll be sat with our little fingers crossed while Lens and will still make up their mind
We’ll be sat in the background ‘yes will, no will three bags full will’ we’ll be your backup option no problem take as long as you need sir we’ll be waiting’

All part of the negotiations, either side "leak" stuff to push the negotiations along. Nowhere has it ever been stated that he wasn't bought into it. This is where issues are caused with our fans, they look at him in a negative way before he is even hired (if he comes!). Not bought into it...touting himself around...this...that...etc...

How has Speakman ballsed it right up?
See above.

I think the hope that SSN reporting the Still deal being off is nothing more than wishful thinking. "All but over" is pretty final.

Your posting history suggests you really didn't want a 'yes man'.

Surely Still disrupting things and causing an issue is great for you?

A real 'no man'.

That's strange, I thought we were the only club who had this sort of 'model'?
