I think I've mentioned on here that I was at the academy once and he walked past. I was struck by how small and slight he looked - he appeared to have the build of teenage boy which surprised me in game where physicality is increasingly important.

A lot of footballers are quite small

Imagine wanting to play for MK Dons or Wigan instead
That might be showing more about our fans than him.

As an exile who basically rarely comes into contact with Sunderland fans in my day to day life, the picture of how Sunderland is viewed on this forum compared to reality is quite stark

Can you really blame a player for not performing well when he's not being played in a system that gets the most out of his abilities?

Yeah when they say things like “I probably should not have moved”, “At no point would I ever have wanted to leave Wigan”, “I felt like I didn’t have a choice”, “it hasn’t worked out for me.” It really makes me feel like he’s desperate to do well for us here.
Just get behind the lads man will ya 🤣

What, we're viewed the same as Wigan or MK Dons?
Not MK Dons, as outside of their fans, no one gives a fuck about them realistically, just like loads of other teams that size.

The gap between what people think of Wigan and Sunderland will be a lot smaller than what SAFC fans think it is though.

Possibly now we're about to spend a third seaosn at this level but I've got a mate who is a Wigan fan who would never think they were anywhere near us.

He needs 3 chances created for him to score 1 goal, unlike Maja who would create his own chances and take a lot more of them. I was happy with the Grigg signing at the time, but it turns out looking at goals scored in the past doesn't tell the full story.

Blame the fans klaxon, really sick of these mercenaries coming here not being able to cope with the expectations of playing here and then blaming the fan base, he hasn't been good enough simple as that.

That victim mindset. Is it ok for him to stop trying? Thr bloke is absolute scum.
Absolute scum? Worked hard in training according to his manager, then played in a system where he can't have an impact. Sounds to me like your owner bought a player based on his wikipedia stats and his song, rather than his fit for the team.

It'd be like if Wenger had signed a big lumbering targetman then the Arsenal fans moaned that he didn't move enough for the intricate 1-2s that they played.

No, of course you can’t.

You could blame him for doing these kind of interviews when under contract.

You could blame him for moving despite not wanting to.

You could blame him for his awful f***ing attitude.

Why he felt the need to say all the stuff about not really wanting to leave Wigan to come here I don't know but a lot of the other stuff is spot on, we don't create many chances and Parkinson does prefer a target man.
