Wilko On Brink Of Collapse (10/08/23 now in administration)

There's about a quarter of the units empty

Got quite a range for whats there though to be fair; Morrisons, B&M, Iceland, Greggs, Poundland (was Wilko), Boots, Superdrug, Dicksons, Home Bargains (over the road) etc. Pretty much everything you need unless your going for something special where you wouldn't be at Jarrow anyway.

Decent pet shop which stocks a lot of good quality stuff as well.

Problem with a cinema is who's going to run it. Odeon is stuggling, Cineworld and Empire are both in administration, Vue maybe. Not to mention theres two cinemas on the outskirts pretty much (Dalton Park / Boldon).
Vue would be the best result, they're the only cheap place left, the Gateshead one is my go to cinema now, although god knows it they can sustain it.

So what's the likely outcome for the building in Sunderland? as mentioned, far too big for a Poundland, and surely another one isn't needed anyway.

Dream scenario further down the line is it can be split into separate units.

The landlord hasn't kept up with routine maintenance on the Sunderland store and it's dropping to bits. The basement is not safe and the store warehouse had to moved into a partitioned off area on the first floor. Anyone who takes it on will need to do a major refurbishment on the actual building before thinking about opening it again.

Aye totally agreed, I don't understand how any of them stay open personally half empty, cheap really and half the films nowadays come out on demand after like a month anyway.

Didn't realise there was a pet shop there like. Might have to have a look sometime need a new place for bird stuff as Wilko was where we got it all pretty much.

Abandoned for a long time imo until it's converted into non retail. Would be a good site for a hotel etc if the demand was there.

Typical of certain landlords all about profit and nothing for the precious heritage of the buildings they buy and the fond memories of many thousands of people contained therein.

It could be a full FRI and therefore the tenant could be at fault . Seen plenty in my time
