OK, I'm no great photographer but I love to point my lens at wildlife.

This guy flew into the garden unexpectedly and 'hung' around for a portrait.
I give you the greater spotted woodpecker.

Anyone had experiences of either being very patient to shoot wildlife or something turning up unexpectedly?

Did that work instead?

Nice shot marra. What did you use? Telephoto lens?

I'm not a big wildlife photographer, but not averse to grabbing an unexpected shot when one presents itself.

For example, a friend was looking to take pictures at the match, and stumbled across this beauty -

This is a cropped image that was taken handheld out of my bedroom window on a 60D using the IS on a canon 70-300 L lens.

Nice story, shame it was shot in Bristol after a fox killed it.
