Just been down to check it out and have a pint with me Mate.

Quite impressed, big, nicely done out, canny atmosphere.

Think at 2.75 a pint they have priced out the majority of the wankers. Who will stick to the Robbies or the Brit.

What was it like clientel-wise? I am hoping that they do keep out the White Lion and Robbie Burns lot like else it will keep people away.

We are having a look in on Thursday night like.

ps. Is it just me or is Weatherspoons not cheap anymore?

Going down this afternoon to try it out, as already mentioned the drink is pricey but should hopefully keep out the local penny-pinching yobs, I'd never been to the Buffs but my family are regulars and from what I've been told the bar has been moved from the centre of the room to the end, toilets are much bigger now and the top floor, which was where they had events etc is where they store the drink.

Exactly. The Brit gets quite busy on Saturday nights (when bands are on) and the golden has a very small but loyal clientele but on the whole it's fairly quiet. If the White was renovated and prices up a bit to drive out jabba the hut and chewy, houghton would be quite alright for a drink

Where in Houghton is it, might pop in today.

It's the old Buffs club.

Houghton was great for drinking back in the day, I used to spend a lot of time in the snooker club drinking triple vodka & coke for £1.

Clientele was just like any other spoons. Although reminded me more of the worm. Was alright, canny pint aswell which you expect from a spoons.
I'd of thought a few knobheads will get in on a weekend, as it will become part of a route for some. But at the prices if of thought they would not be in long.
Personally I've only ever been down to the golden in hoton for a pint before, which is a canny little boozer, but I don't mind paying a bit extra in the spoons to be able to walk down for a drink rather then drive / taxi / bus it to town.

£2.60 for a pint of Stella in the Brit (about £1.80 for a bottle).

I doubt Wetherspoons will beat that on price for most stuff, live entertainment on a Saturday too. I suppose a bottle of Effes or whatever at about £2.10 isn't bad though and might get a few in for that.

Weatherspoons is shit.

its the opnly option many have for getting a pint of decent alwe so for that I'm for.

not all weatherspoons are shit... soem attract the dregs but many especially in London are nto bad at all in fantastic buildings that would have gone to rack and ruin otherwise

How long ago are we talking "back in the day"? I have drank in the Snooker Club and all the other places in Houghton for about 12 year now so may have crossed paths.

Snooker Club was good at one point when we had the football team and stuff.

Now Derek can't even have the sign spelt correctly. Haughton Snooker Club
