Wigan casino...

Wizzard see my baby jive... And the best Xmas song ever... Roy wood is god...
I will certainly agree with you on that score.
The ball park incident is my favourite Wizzard song from 1972.
Agree about the best ever Christmas song also.

Wigan casino.. Got me into fell running... Northern soul got me dancing...lads from Blackburn told me Saturday was a morning of graft... Afternoon trotting up n down the fells and Saturday night dancing.. Late 70s early 80s... Dance til down... Then have swim in pool next door.. Then 7 hour coach back down Deep South,.. Did you lot get into northern soul.....
Regular a Wigan Casino, it was a great venue until we started to get the southern hipsters crashing the scene  Also used to do some spotting for Russ Winstanley at Blackpool Mecca.
Twisted Wheel was the daddy though.

Went to the Highland rooms a few times. Too young for the wheel, torch, va va's etc. We probably know a few people as a lot of my friends were old wheelies, mainly from York and Leeds.
Must admit in general the southern funk influence with their tapered pants and peg legged scissor dancing wasn't welcome for me... But as I say some good lads from down south.
Used to love the ritz all dayers in Manchester.

Went for the first time aged 15 in 1976 and was there more or less every weekend til 79 , even doing the Oldies monthly Friday night and then the usual Saturday night. Whilst still loving the music I had to stop going as the whizz was getting out of control and I made a conscious decision that it had to stop so that was me done with all nighters . Still enjoying it now - just got tickets for an all dayer at the Fed in Gateshead in August but will probably be mostly in the rare/R&B room

no but my lasses uncle organises events in and around durham. Goes to skeggy n that for it, loves it.

What the fuck
1970's youth culture Frijj.

Love the tunes, way Before my time, Must have been f***ing great at the time. It’s the plague of fat edl scooterists now, down my way.
Mate it was f***ing tremendous. Pure adventure and cameraderie, for a 16 year old it doesn't come much better. Can't bring myself to go to any do's now although loads of my old oppos go. Just makes me sad to see lads that could spin and float on air shuffle about.
"Time marches on" (woooa oooh oh)

Did it twice back in the late 70s. There used to be a bus on from Newcastle though I never went to the pool.
It was a no booze place in my day though there seemed to be no shortage of pharmaceuticals.

There was indeed a bus every week from Newcastle run by a lad called Duncan . I used it a few times until Peterlee started its own bus

This thread needs song. One of the best Northern soul songs ever made.

The instrumental to that was massive as well - called Exus Trek . I think it might have been written as a theme turn for a US show but could be wrong . Not sure what came first the vocal or instrumental @Skandhaless might know as he is considerably older than me :p

This one is never out of my top 10 (and has a cracking B side as well ) Just playing it to get the link and I have goosebumps :)

My mentor back in the day said that as well - Local lad who along with your mate Marty brought Northern Soul to Hartlepool - was a patron of Torch and VaVa's etc

On my copy of born to love you , this is on the B side
