WiFi speeds

I’ve been suffering from duff WiFi speed for a while. I contacted Sky and an engineer came out and gave me a new router, but said the problem was outside. Openreach engineer came out and did something, and the problem is now marked as fixed.

The Sky service checker is reporting a speed into the router of 40 mbps, but I’m sitting 2 metres from it and getting 0.2 on my phone. I’ve got a pc plugged into a power line network and that’s reporting 0.5
How can the speeds be so low if the speed into it is so high???

Speed being throttled due to the amount of mexican midget porn you have downloaded?

Actually one problem I’ve found is if the bairn is downloading games off Steam, it hogs the entire bandwidth and nothing else in the house works. Anyone know if you can throttle this?

I had bother with powerline adapters. All fine at first but after a few month I noticed they were slowing the network down (even the wifi) and eventually my router kept resetting. Likely intereference from something else plugged in.

Unplug the powerlines and see if your wifi speed picks up.

Cos one is wired and the other is wireless.

You need to try and plug your pc directly into the router and see what speed you get there.

If it is close to 40, there is nothing wrong with your internet connection to the router, you just have wifi and powerline problems.

If the wired connection is slow, there is an issue with the internet connection and/or the sky router

Modems cant funnel WIFI very well. So its really like a first come first server with the bandwidth
A router would sort that problem out
