One of kids wants to use the loft (basic conversion ) as study for college , problem is we can’t get WiFi up there .
Rang virgin and got told would be a £50 charge And £3 per month on bill.
So I’m seeking advice from the IT Crowd . Anyone else had this problem in past , what do I need to get that is piss easy to set up and will work
    Cheers !

Would a Wi-Fi booster not work? They just plug into a socket and extend the signal.

I don't understand what they are charging for here? Why the £3 extra a month? Just go to curry's and buy a WiFi booster or a powerline adapter.

This. And if you have plugs in the loft that don’t work with the booster, stick it in the bedroom that he’ll be sat above

what's better - those wifi booster things or a proper router not the shit ones they give you with your broadband?
  6. Thieving bastards. Just get a WiFi range extender or power line plugs.
  7. TP link works fine off the mains

That's what I've got, no issues at all. Think it was only about £20.
They had really expensive ones but we manage fine with just that.

I’ve got the BT Whole Home WiFi setup. Works a treat in my house.

There’s ones for about £400 on Amazon, looks like a stealth aircraft

Must be doing some heavy duty wanking to require something like that

I have a TP link extender and slows the signal down, some devices drop in and out. Might try the powerline ones.

Assuming you have power in your loft?

Just get a Powerline adapter (make sure it's the one with Wifi). Problem solved.

    Will invoice you later.

As people have said if you have a plug socket up there get a powerline device and then run a cat 5 cable from it to an old router or switch.

I was very sceptical of them as i would have always ran proper cabling but i got a cheap set and they were brilliant - just invested in 2 sets of the 2gb ones from TP link as we do a lot of streaming and they work really well.
