Why would you sack your manager one day…

Rumours had been swirling since the Huddersfield game, so you have to assume some contact has been made with possible targets.

Those targets must have given some encouragement before the axe finally fell.

We get told the club have all these strategies, plans, forward thinking months ahead, so if that's true you have to believe we are organised and going through the process amd it should be a quick appointment

and not have his replacement already lined up to start pretty much the day after? F*cking berks.

They knew fine well they wanted rid of TM FFS. Loads of clubs do it I suppose, it’s just mad… 🤷‍♂️
People assuming that Sunderland wanted rid of Mowbray, maybe they didn’t therefore didn’t have replacements lined up, no one knows why Mowbray was sacked, if it was something that was said or done on the spur of the moment then they decided he had to go.
We’ll never know.

“We are going to replace management, we want you, will you come?” if tjey so no go to next one.
What if they go

“I’d love to in theory but I am under contract for another 2 years in my current role so would be unable to unless you can agree compensation with them.”

Or

“I’d love to but I would like to bring an and b in as support staff which would mean you making x and y redundant in the current set up. Are you prepared to do that?”

Or

“I’d love to but If I were to take the job, I’d want to move my entire family to the NE so I’d like to look at schools etc and would need to involve my partner in the decision”

Even the most basic HR process seems to take weeks if not months in my experience with legally enforced “consultation periods” etc. do tbh, I’m amazed how quickly the process sometimes moves.

You’re sounding like KS *processes* 🤣 it’s very simple they will have a list of who they want, “We are going to replace management, we want you, will you come?” if tjey so no go to next one.
I think you’re sounding like you don’t understand the big boy world of corporates and professional organisations. You make it sound like they’re just asking a lass out for a date.

In any of those scenarios they just wait until the issue preventing the next bloke coming is resolved before they sack Mowbray.

Like others I cannot see the rationale for sacking Mowbray at 10pm on a Monday night in a hectic fixture period without an immediate replacement being lined up.

They‘ve mentioned succession planning and data driven approach to the recruitment of head coaches before but when it comes to the reality it looks like they’re not ready with the next man when he’s needed.

Its all well and good identifying suitable candidates but if they’ve no idea whether they’re willimg to come to the club at the point they’re needed it’s like having a list of supermodels lined up in case your lass walks out.

Football is a ruthless business and like I have said many times there isn’t much loyalty in the game apart from the fans. The club behind the scenes will already know who they want and I think it’s just a case now of getting his lawyers in and drawing up the contract. Funny old business football. I’m a bit gutted for Mowbray as he seems a very nice and genuine person, who at this stage of his life was looking like he was really enjoying it. I just hope there is an opportunity out there for him to keep that going as he deserves it. It’s a shame it is t going to be here.

Could be that the coach we want is already in a role and his clubs have moved the foalposts on how much compo they want now that we've sacked Mowbray?

Could be the head coach himself or his agent acting on his behalf, playing it out for more money?

Could be that another coach has thrown his name into the hat at the last minute and the club have decided to sound that coach out instead?

Could be the coach's family are having 2nd thoughts at the last minute?

Any number of things could have happened. I doubt these things go smoothly when there's a number of things that have to click into place at the same time.

Suggests they hadn’t planned to let him go so soon, maybe mowbray got wind of them speaking to people again and it came to a head
I think there's more to it also and they hadn't planned originally for him to be going so soon

First time ive known a manager to leave here yet remain so highly thought of, he will always get a very warm welcome if ever returns with another club or as a guest

This is my take. It was obvious that they were planning on replacing him, most likely in the summer. But something seems to have happened behind the scenes, or a culmination of events, that have forced their hand, IMO. Either way though, if they are targeting someone who is currently in a role and is overseas then there's a lot to be done, agreed compensation with current club, backroom staff, family relocating etc.
