Why we shouldn’t care about “being good”

Our owners the Coates family could spend hundreds of millions and say f@ck fair play , take a ten points deduction and a fine and just do it , as those at the top table will always be dining on steak and the rest of us licking the dogs bowl

Lots of fans here care about promotion and rightly so but am I the only one who doesn’t want to be promoted? Even if we could we’d get robbed by bloody VAR and the cheating blood money clubs wouldn’t make it a fair fight. Down here we play entertaining football and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
i wouldn't want to get promoted but that's from a purely selfish point of view. apart from the derbies, the pl has nothing to offer me personally from my perspective as a fan. i would sooner go to bristol/shrewsbury/accrington on a wet tuesday night than anfield/old trafford any time.

i would however like to see the players achieve what would be a dream for them. this squad of young lads haven't suddenly become a bad team. these runs of form happen and some of them have so much potential to make it at the top level. so for them it'd be great and i'd be chuffed for them but for me not so.

hope that makes sense.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want us to be in the very top league.

I get that we've been out of it for years, have major disappointments in it, but going week in week out and seeing world class players is superb. The standard of football is amazing and it's just better.

The only reason why is because we wouldn't invest and get spanked every week, again.

Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. It would be quite good if we could be f***ing excellent in this league win it and ask nicely if we could stay down.

Joking aside you have to be ambitious and be as good as you an possibly be. That means going up, trying to stay up and then trying to improve in that league. Once you lose the desire to be as good as you can be things would get boring eventually.
This season was always going to be worse than last. No Amad, no Stewart.

Write this season off, hope we can get back to easy on the eye attacking play... and maybe get one or two of the new signings contributing and progressing..

I think that means we lose Clarke, so maybe get some games in for Jewi...

It hasn't been entertaining of late, it's been dire.

There are some entertaining moments but overall you are right, slow motion build up and passing backwards is not entertaining.

Clubs like Sunderland can't turn into a Man U from Fergies day. Even if you had a miraculous series of transfer windows and brought in great players, they would all want to go elsewhere after a few months. It's all about money, we simply cannot compete with the rich clubs and the FA has no ambition to change that.
If we miraculously turned into man United of the 90’s, in my fantasy, we would be rich. And everyone would want to play for us. That was kind of my point.

I want to get promoted so we can sign better quality young players and keep our current better quality players longer. Then I want us to go all out for the cups and hope we get a good draw. I don't really care about competing in the premier league, though ithink of we'd gone up last year we'd stay up this as Burnley and sheff utd are dire and Everton lost 10 points.
So had Sunderland gone up they would have stay up cos the teams that did go up are worse than Sunderland were?

Well sheff utd are worse this year than last just flat. Luton are currently doing the best but also I think so. I think we have more players that would be able to step up. It's like how we struggled to get out of league 1 but we're better a league up

Well it is an opinion I suppose. On a sort of related note are Sunderland "better" than last season? If not why not? (and please don't say cos Man U won't loan us Amad)

Than this point, probably. In general, probably not. Our failure to get Stansfield as a Simms style signing being the major difference as well as it obviously being impossible to replace Stewart before selling Stewart. If you're trying to compare it to the premier league then we almost certainly sign much better forwards if we go up.

Burstow has unfortunately been a failure as a loan signing. And Evans being injured has definitely not helped. Nor has the refusal to play onien there. For seemingly no reason other than stubbornness
