Why we shouldn’t care about “being good”

I want the club to win games as high up the divisions we can.

Imagine being stuck in this league for years and years. It’d be soul destroying
Perfectly acceptable to me. I have zero interest in getting humped every week in PL. Happy for top half of this division for a few more seasons.

I mean both those options sound hideous mate 🤣
Worse than circling the toilet bowl for 6 years or so in the PL like last time?

100%.
Surely we all want us to play at the highest level.

If we're not at least in the playoffs, then it means we're not winning games and not winning games is never fun to watch.

Must be pretty sad to enjoy losing games, there's nothing 'pretty' about that. Personally, I'd rather watch the most ugly football going and win that some flare and losing.

If you're into that, go onto YouTube there's plenty kids doing skills.

I remember last season a poster on here suggesting that if we got promoted we should be able to say to the fa that we don’t want to go up because it’s more fun winning games in this league. What player worth his salt would play for a club like this, fans would disappear and we would drop down the leagues, some people haven’t thought this through
They're f***ing idiots man.
Our best players won't hang around and then we won't be winning loads of games, we'll be scratching around the bottom half of the table competing will the likes of Plymouth and Rotherham.

Lots of fans here care about promotion and rightly so but am I the only one who doesn’t want to be promoted? Even if we could we’d get robbed by bloody VAR and the cheating blood money clubs wouldn’t make it a fair fight. Down here we play entertaining football and that’s what matters at the end of the day.
It hasn't been entertaining of late, it's been dire.
We don't play entertaining football
There are some entertaining moments but overall you are right, slow motion build up and passing backwards is not entertaining.

I've slowly taken up the same disposition.

Having said that, I also think if anything can change, then everything can change. We could somehow turn into Man United during the Fergie years. It's just a mystery as to how that could unfold from our current standing.
Clubs like Sunderland can't turn into a Man U from Fergies day. Even if you had a miraculous series of transfer windows and brought in great players, they would all want to go elsewhere after a few months. It's all about money, we simply cannot compete with the rich clubs and the FA has no ambition to change that.

Utter folly and an impossibility. If you aren’t striving forwards you go backwards. No way could we maintain a side playing attractive football with good players stopping in mid table championship every year. We need to go up and try to compete playing attractive football up there. I guess in your current analogy that would make us like Fulham. Fucks sake man. Fulham. f***ing Fulham.

Eeeeee, this lad's a Makem yinar! He has to be, he's got a picture of Bobby Kerr and 73 in his username, and he's right, If we only played park football, we could win a little bit more often.

What’s wrong with Fulham? They’re a league higher than us.

No wonder the owner has no ambition when we’ve got fans like this. This just makes us look so small time. May as well close the gates now ffs
Exactly spot on, some of the ambition from some is disgraceful frankly, stuck in the lower leagues like forest and leeds were for decades, fuck No, it’s bad enough we have been out of the top flight for almost 7 years !, I was hopeful we would be back up by 2027.

Absolutely nothing it’s just the realisation that I was quoting Fulham as an aspirational model 😂 perfectly reasonably but still… Fulham man. For a good chunk of my life they seemed to have been battling the drop from division 4

best we can realistically hope for in the next 5 years is to get to a level equal to Crystal Palace, Wolves, Bournemouth, Brentford Everton etc.. maybe even Brighton, Villa, West Ham level for a short spell... thats best case scenario

as a compromise we will have to live with VAR .

otherwise we stay in this league and battle for playoffs every season. shite either way. but more fun down here, better away games, more games, less pressure, and mostly... no VAR

When they were promoted the time before last, they spunked about £100M but were immediately relegated iirc.

Their realistic chance of ‘success’ is a cup run but no doubt they play weakened teams to try to ensure premier league survival.

Which is what 3/4 of the top flight do?

Would take VAR tomorrow if in return we could play the best again.
