The Norman conquest was nothing like William of Orange though. They were forcibly subjected to Norman rule and had their lands etc taken off them. Most of England's land is still in the hands of Norman decendants. 5% of the population was murdered, and entire towns and villages wiped out in the harrying of the North, the impacts of which are still felt to this day.

And obviously loads of our language from French.
But it wasn't a French invasion it was the Duke of Normandy

Their is one thing the article did get right and i agreed with the notion that the poppy has become a politcal symbol, certainly over the last 6 years its become more of an issue , its as if some have got the idea into their heads that come the end of october when outside on the street it's become like a uniform, which is expected that all wear it, the whole point of both world wars was fighting for freedom in all things.

A point seemingly lost on society at large at the moment and this board in particular, especially on the annual "Lash out at James McLean" thread.

I know the thread title mentions him, but is his opinion really that important to us all that it's impossible to discuss remembrance on this board without getting angry about him?

Agree, so in that case the thread should not have been posted on a football forum

Quite possibly mate, posting that article on this board was only going to have one outcome, and here we are at 10.38am on armistice day, discussing the opinion of a footballer who once played for us rather than remembrance.
We've got 364 other days to discuss his stance.

So can you confirm your belief is that anyone born in Northern Ireland can't claim to be Irish and don't have the right to call where they live Derry ? Also what are your views on Rainbow Poppies?
