Why is there hardly ever any Jazz music on TV?

Bottom line is that its a niche genre on par with opera for popularity.

That's why it only gets the occasional slot on BBC4 or sky arts. It's got nowt to do with racism

There's a line in the Beiderbecke TV series in which Jill Swinburne says something like "Since I've met Trevor I've found out there's three styles of jazz. "Hot, cool and when does the tune start" My wife nearly wet herself laughing at that. She should know as she's fallen asleep in front of some of the finest jazz musicians this planet has ever seen.

Written by a Jarra lad and Trevor was played by Sunderland's James Bolam.

I can't stand it. However, I quite liked some jazz-tinged pop bands like Hue and Cry and Swing Out Sister. For me, straight Jazz is just not my thing at all.
My level too, Hue and Cry have always been a favourite of mine but have to say a couple of tracks cross the line and have me skipping to the next track. The straight jazz stuff puts my teeth on edge and makes me irritated just listening to it. Respect anyone who gets it though, different strokes i guess.
They're re-running Treme on Sky...
Now that got on my nerves, tried watching but Jesus it was hard to watch / get in to.
