Its a shame that Darwin gets all the glory mind
Darwin had been working on his theory for years when he got a letter from Alfred Russell Wallace on the same theme. Darwin went into print jointly with Wallace - which was an act of unusual generosity - to outline the theory of evolution the year before Darwin's On the Origin of Species was published (Wallace was one of its most vocal supporters).
Only a contrarian would try to make out that Darwin didn't deserve credit for something he'd worked on independently for so long.
more importantly, Wallace appears to have had a centre parting in his beard.
I've alerted the Royal Society to this thread. I imagine they'll treat it with the respect it deserves.

Did he call Charles Darwin a "thieving nipple?" If not, I'm dubious as to the historical veracity.Bill Bailey did a documentary on Alfred Wallace and he made a very good job of it. Fascinating story and worth checking out.
