Why I Quit - Advocaat

Hes not actually saying he expected us to sign players for £22m is he, just that other clubs do and we can't. He goes on to say he wouldn't work again in England because of the gap.

Whether the Poundland thing is true or not I think it's valid. People point to our total spending every summer but it doesn't tell the full picture. We piss about with frees or £2m here and there every year on rubbish then panic at the end of the window after the damage is done

The point is when he returned he said he hadn't been promised anything regards players so my question would be why did he return without discussing it? There seems a lot of confusion over what has happened and like I have said too many people involved for us to know the facts.

I like Advocaat as a bloke. Clearly he wasn't given what he assumed they were going to give him when he came back. He should however have been clear with the club what he wanted to come back and that hasn't happened.
We are where we are now. He doesn't want to be here which is fair enough, wish him only good things.
Now we've got a scrap on our hands and we've done well to get a bloke in Allardyce who clearly fancies it and gives us the best chance of winning the scrap out of those available.
Onwards and upwards.

Personally I think it has been more than just about football but we may never know the truth. Obviously the football had a big impact but life is for living and I hope he enjoys his retirement with his family.

I don't think he was used to working with small budgets, this is a man who has been working with top teams and internationals around the world, it would be an insult to him to not give him the money to spend on quality and buy half decent players who are not good enough to compete in the Prem. I have no problem with Advocaat, he is a good man and deserves better than Sunderland. He should of been given more control an experienced manager as he is but I wish him well what ever he does. Hopefully we can turn a corner now with Big Sam.

Regardless of the £££ spent,he set us up for a fall with his bizarre tactics with the players we have.
A good manager should be able to adapt to the squad available .

tbf he took the job on under the DOF model compared to BSA who appears to have negotiated more control. I think he just had too much going on in football and outside of football to give the required energy for the battles needed. Yeah it could be argued some of those battles shouldn't have been there but they were and he might have saved us from relegation again by walking away.

We only paid for two players that instantly improved us, the rest were loans, free, or cheap. And only 3-4 signings have genuinely improved us. The defence didn't improve at all. Midfield was improved by M'Vila, who is a loanee and will attract interest from elsewhere and as we've seen no one can guarantee that we will sign him even with this agreement.

The squad has been woeful on the whole over the last few season, it's gonna take a lot more players of Lens value and ability to improve us significantly. You'll need 3 defenders that each cost roughly £10M, 2 £10M midfielders, and at least 1 £10M striker. £60M worth of transfer fees just to put us around midtable. Short will never spend that much money.

I don't think it's helpful for Dick to say, repeatedly, that our squad is not good enough. But he's right to point out the long term issues with our set up.

Nee one can refute the claims he was lead up the garden path, of course he didn't do enough with what he had but something went very wrong from the point short and congers got him back and the point our transfers started to kick in.
It seems less and less like that the more I read from him.

How come nobody else is spending that kind of money then? Somebody has to finish mid table. We were 8th highest net spenders this summer and are 8th highest over the last 5 years.

So Advocat warns that Short was under the influence of agents and now he's appointed Allardyce. Unlike the last few managers, Allardyce will have a free hand when it comes to transfers. What could possibly go wrong? How did Short become a billionaire?

I agree with this and a little surprised he has gone down this route so soon.

Teams certainly have spent that sort of money, it isn't necessarily in one go, but many teams have recruited better, and spent more per player on average than us. We've signed a stupid number of players since MON's January.

We have spent the 8th highest amount in the league over the last 5 years.
