Why have we been so shite the last 5 games

Injuries afer injuries and maybe Judas leaving.Resulting having to play with 1 fit striker and having to throw 2 new signings in and having to keep Hendo in centre midfield.

This.

Playing Gyan up front every week alone isn't gonna help, need Danny or Campbell back in the team asap. Henderson also needs a rest like, also looks better out wide than in the middle.

Muntari and Sess not improving the midfield.
Bardsley having no support.
Lack of breaking up the play to counter attack.
Under performers not being dropped.
Mensah seems a liability since he came back in.
Anton is not very good fullback.
Bad managerial decisions.
Etc etc etc.

football has overtaken SAFC, the likes of Murray saw to that.

whilst a load of people on here are convinced that the good times are just around the corner, that wont happen.

We have no real money to throw about and a £65m turnover will see us no place in particular. with the UEFA Financial Fair Play coming into operation there will have to be some creative accounting or deep pockets too see us make much of an impact.

Even if we get a huge international sponsortship deal of say £10m per annum it takes our turnover to £75m - one decent player.

Its not going to happen for SAFC or anyone else hoping to muscle in on the top 5 or 6.

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble. Forget it.

Not very far unfortunately.

Quinns ambition can be as huge as it likes it wont happen for SAFC. The club he took over was knackered; it still is.

These are good times. Have you not followed sundeland for 40 odd years?

I have no idea why you bother. You have published books about the club and appear to follow it in detail but seem to derive little or no pleasure from it.

To say the club lacks ambition is ludicrous. What else is it supposed to do?

I think it's a form of football sadomasochism with him. He'll have a red and white stripey belt that he lashes himself with...

They are good times. Just goes to show that you cant please everyone all of the time, so if you can just please the majority its a job well done.

I would say the majority are folks that can recognise the huge strides we have and continue to take, not those who wish it would all die as everything is shit.

Have we really taken huge strides on the pitch...?
I thought we had done only to fix something that wasn't broken.
Could well be another false dawn, one thing for certain, time will tell.

Because the club is far too complacent. Everyone who joins us, administrators, managers or players knows about our relegation record. We're happy to quite simply not go down - as are the fans BTW.

We lack any ambition. Talk a good game though.

Really?

so I should only support SAFC if I think they will win something? wouldnt that make me a glory boy?

We've been shit for 40 years and I've supported then throughout that period. Just as well really. Using your criteria everyone should have stopped supporting us by now.

Sunderland are my team, however they will never win much in the next 50 years. Thats just the way I think it is.

why does that bother you? Just move on or put me on ignore. Its really easy.

It's not about winning trophies. I don't think that's why anybody signs up to SAFC. It's about being less shit than we used to be. In fact, we have got quite good  in recent years. Some of the football played under Bruce has been most un-sunderland-like, especially for those of us brought up on a diet of Lemon, Hauser, Pascoe, Angel, Cunnington, Rogerson, Ferguson and in more recent times Thirlwell, Williams, Whitley and Whitehead. Give me a large helping of today's 'shite' any day of the week

I think we have mate, Keane's promotion team was far better than the one he had. Bruce's team is far better than a team that Keane left behind (which on paper was one of the worst in the prem).

All about opinion's but having the likes of Gyan in the team make's me ultimitly more happy than say Stead, Connely, Murphy and Jones.

My issue is we cant continue to improve at the rate we are, as its just not possible due to finance or draw of club and then those who arent happy will become even more vocal.

In the last 5 years, we have taken massive strides. Bent leaving and not being replaced was a step back BUT the club was right IMHO. Wait until the summer to get the right long term replacement in.

Bruce has taken a number of calculated gambles since he joined. Areas of the squad were thin but he did this rather than spend on stop gaps.

Anyone, who isn't enjoying where we are as a club at the moment should just give up because some day we will get worse and unless something huge happens (loads of brilliant kids come through or Bruce picks up loads of cheap foreigners and sells them for tens of millions) we are reaching our ceiling.

We always seem prone to a run of bad form, this one coincided with Bent buggering off and other players being injured and poor ref decisions.

A point that worries me that does not seem to have been mentioned yet, apologies if it has, is some players are performing as if they were on the beach already and we do not have enough points yet to be safe!

In reply to the OP's question, it is probably because we have played sides currently better than us.
Our form will hopefully improve in the coming weeks.

That's the relevant bit though.
People are suggesting it's a dip in form.
You are *SORT OF* suggesting otherwise, while at the same time confirming that it is.

We drew away to Spurs earlier and could have won it.
We drew at Liverpool and SHOULD have won it (ref).
Yet weren't in the races against them recently (imo).

Maybe not from last season to this one as it's very much a work in progress and when you get closer to your goals then it becomes that much more difficult to push on. If you look over a period of just 3 or 4 years we have come a f***ing massive way and taken big fat 50 foot tall giant strides

This was our starting line-up on the 29th March 2008 (just three years ago)

Gordon; Bardsley, Evans, Nosworthy, Collins; Chopra, Whitehead, Reid, Richardson; Murphy, Jones.
Subs: Fulop, O'Donovan, Yorke, Leadbitter, Edwards.

This was it for our last game

Mignolet, Bardsley, Mensah, Bramble, Ferdinand; Henderson, Muntari, Welbeck, Sessegnon, Richardson; Gyan
Subs: Gordon, Zenden, Malbranque, Elmohamady, Cattermole, Colback, Onuoha

I would argue those are quite large steps in such a short space of time, we just need a bit of consistancy and luck with injuries

This is the team from 4 years ago which started around this time in 2007

Ward; Simpson, Evans, Nosworthy, Collins; Stokes, L. Miller, Whitehead, Yorke, Murphy; Connolly. Subs: Fulop, T. Miller, Wallace, John, Leadbitter.

One of the biggest reasons is playing Richardson just off Gyan, he is more of a goalscoring threat there but he's just not creative enough to play there and it's meant Sessegnon has played out of position and for the start of the Liverpool game Welbeck was too.

We've been quite unlucky too, lost to a rugby side, beaten by Spurs and Chelsea when we played well in parts, drew with Arsenal and the Liverpool game was really unlucky, crap officials, 5 injuries and we just couldn't get going again after the penalty.

Muntari and Sessegnon are having to adapt to a new league while trying to get match fit after not playing much at the end of their spells with their previous clubs.
