Why doesn't the UK take monorails seriously?

For anybody who wants to watch the episode. I'm currently working my way through the first 10 seasons anyway :)
Why build a monorail in a small town with a population centralized around a town centre?
Oh I could give you an answer, but the only ones who'd understand it would be you and me.

I can't believe it's all the way back in 1993 that came out mind!

Was trying to think if a ferry service would benefit the city, maybe from the twin Pallion / North Hylton retail parks to the Marina
Waterbus from South Hilton stopping at various points along both sides of the river inc SOL and Panns Bank then down to Bonnersfield, Fish Quay, Glass Centre, Docks, Marina etc. Hoy a few furnicular railways in where needed and Sunderland’s has a functional tourist attraction.
It’d be a moanerail anyway.
