why do some people on here laugh off or shoot down the posters who are worried about our paper thin

Sick burn.

But given that is two weeks to the start of the season and we have a weaker squad than the last season, the blasé cavalier attitude on display from some posters is baffling.

Season after session recently we've made the same mistakes. Starting preseason without getting players in, forming a team and system ready for the first league game.

Panic is perhaps an overstatement (though it was your word not mine, and mercifully for my limited intellect and vocabulary you lowered yourself to using a short word), but posters are, once again, right to be concerned.

Last season I was concerned with or dreadful preseason and was told many, many times not to worry, preseason means nothing, Coates is good enough, Vergini is good enough...

I'd refer you to Einstein's definition of madness.
Is it bollox the same squad as this time last year. We have lost an erratically useful paedo and got rid of a huge amount of chaff. We have gained the 3 K's.

If we sign Mvilla in the next 2 weeks (and buy or borrow an average RB) it's basically the team that played from January with top ten form.

And we now have a load of wages headroom for a manager with one week in the job who has previously managed to spot and loan players of the quality of Piennaar, Lukaku and Delafeu.

We are in a much better position this summer than in any summer we've had since we got back to the Prem.

We need no more than 3 starters and 3 squad players. We have two weeks before our first match and 3 weeks before one that matters. We have a month before the window closes.

Calm down, dear .

Did I say it was? Our current squad is weaker than last seasons (I.e. the one we finished the season with). You've already acknowledged that in the rest of your post.

We need no more then 3 starters who won't have had a preseason with us and that is clearly far from ideal.

Calm down yourself, Michael Winner.

Some fans are pretty thick followed by
NON of that
Righto

You'll lose that bet then!

The board is for amongst other things, opinions.
Doomies believe before the season we're in the shite because we havent bought enough players.
Posters like me believe that's a pile of shite
for myriad reasons so call the perps out for spouting drivel.
If that gets people down...TOUGH

Now theres a SMB first! Someone admitting theyre happy to stay in the PL every season by the skin of our teeth.

In the eyes of football club owners the world ower youre the perfect fan marra. Expect an offer from SAFC to be a fan representative on the board very soon if one hasnt arrived already. Be careful out there btw as theyre rich men and may already have their people hacking Rogers database to find your real life ID. Before sending them out in an attempt to procure your DNA for cloning purposes. A simple hair from a comb or bit of saliva from a glass left on a table in your local will suffice. Beware of any new barstaff marra. Once theyve got it theyll be the envy of the footballing world. A stadium full of fans who all believe buying no players whatsoever is the way forward.

ATM the best we can hope for as fans is another "skin of the teeth" season with maybe a cup run hoyed in. Me mesel like Im way more ambitous for SAFC. Mid table obscurity is what im dreaming of and if it means having to enter the dreaded transfer market then what the hell lets risk it.

They were hamstrung by a confidentiality agreement on that one. Do you honestly believe that the club are just sitting on their hands at the moment, not trying to sign anyone?

Just because nobody has yet put pen to paper doesn't mean the club are actively choosing not to make any moves until the last minute.
Not at all, however you can ring a club and inquire about a player or you can ring a club and actively go about getting that player...I'll leave you on this point we finished 4th bottom last season, as it stand today our squad is worse than it was back then....however like I said we will hopefully sign players but they'll come into the squad 6 weeks to late to make a real difference cone the start of the season...Have a nice day marra and enjoy your Sunday...

Marvelous . He will be scanning his thesaurus for a vitriolic reply whilst stamping around his bedroom . Good post by the way .

There's a bit more to it than that, marra, it takes financial analysis, initial discussions of how much the other team would want for him, proposals for staggered payment plans and clauses, and comparison of alternatives to see if it's even worth buying a specific player for a certain amount or if the money would be better spent on someone else, discussions with the player to find out if they'd even be interested in a move, followed by contract negotiations and possible alterations to the original bid if the player's demands are higher than expected.

It's a very complicated process, not just "hey there, we want to buy this player", "Oh hi, yeah that'll be £11m please", "OK thanks, we'll take him", job done.

For all we know, we could have any number of signings in various stages of this process. Nobody outside the club has any idea how many, and at what stage they are. It's not in the club's best interests to announce every player we've got under consideration to the press just to appease the fans. There could be 5 players packing their bags to come to Sunderland for medicals at this very moment. We just don't know. Panicking at this stage is just putting yourself through stress and worry for the sake of it.

We did indeed finish 4th bottom last least season with a weaker squad than we have now. However our current squad is stronger yet more streamlined than the one that started last season and had us right at the bottom of the table at the turn of the year, so we're not only a better team, we're also in a better financial position to be signing new players than we were at this point last year.

Add to that we've now got a manager that's more accustomed to the English game than the manager we started last season with, with a history of being able to make great signings and achieve continental qualification on a limited budget, who has committed to a long-term deal. I'm very confident that we're heading in the right direction as a club.

Have a nice Sunday, marra.

Nah. You're the bed wetter who needs to calm down, not me.You were whining on about how it's always the same (see your Einstein quote) and implying we're in deep sh8t.

But things are obviously getting better, not worse/staying the same.
We re-sign one bloke and any sort of RB and we already then have the same team that played for months at top ten level.

According to Einstein we should expect about 10th then should we?

I don't think it'll be that easy but in terms of relegation worries this year, three or four decent additions on top in the next month and we are laughing.

As for the new starters needing time, two of them could be Mvilla and Yedlin and the third is just a better midfielder than Catts if we can find one.

Squad and lack of geniune quality signings with 2 weeks to go before the season starts and use the term bed wetters etc etc

Do they not think that those posters have a very valid point of view.

I am not a bed wetter by any stretch of the imagination but I am a little worried that we only managed to stay up by the skin of our teeth again last year and yet we have a squad as it stands weaker than the one that finished the season

I am over the moon with David moyes as manager but he needs backed to the hilt in the next 4 weeks if we are not to be involved in another relegation battle

Same every year mate. Come September though when it's too late there'll be outrage

About three seasons ago I stopped arguing against the complainers on here. A lot of the fans watch just as much football as some managers, they may not be experts but they ate experienced in their club, have an invested interest, and at the very least, know when something isn't right. They have every right to call it as they see it. Often they are right.

Well said.

Fuck off with this bedwetter shit you dull ****.

Its all if, if, if. IF we sign M'Villa, IF we sign a better midfielder.

I'm saying that the club, through Allerdyce, made noises about learning the lessons from the past and getting players in early. Obviously circumstances made that more difficult.

As it stands our squad is worse then the one we finished last season with.

Now fuck off.

Calm down, dear...and the club have done nowt wrong. What would you have done differently in their shoes?

It's two weeks before a ball is kicked and some on here have us relegated, supporters? Doesn't sound like it. Another thread they are slagging the club off for not signing a player that used to play for our previous manager, nothing to say Moyse wanted him. Let's see where we are nearer the time eh?
