why do some people on here laugh off or shoot down the posters who are worried about our paper thin

Sick burn.

But given that is two weeks to the start of the season and we have a weaker squad than the last season, the blasé cavalier attitude on display from some posters is baffling.

I'd refer you to Einstein's definition of madness.

Is it bollox the same squad as this time last year. We have lost an erratically useful paedo and got rid of a huge amount of chaff. We have gained the 3 K's.

If we sign Mvilla in the next 2 weeks (and buy or borrow an average RB) it's basically the team that played from January with top ten form.

And we now have a load of wages headroom for a manager with one week in the job who has previously managed to spot and loan players of the quality of Piennaar, Lukaku and Delafeu.

We are in a much better position this summer than in any summer we've had since we got back to the Prem.

We need no more than 3 starters and 3 squad players. We have two weeks before our first match and 3 weeks before one that matters. We have a month before the window closes.

Calm down, dear .

This simply isn't true.

All noises coming out of the club about transfers have been "we're working on it constantly, with staff glued to the phones" and in the papers the reports have been "executives are in Town X discussing the details of the hopeful signing of Player Y", the latest of which will smash our club transfer record if it's true and it happens.

Absolutely nowhere except in the minds of the panicked are the club saying "We're sitting on our arses until the last minute and then we're going to try to sign some players because we believe that's the best strategy".
So you believe everything the club put out as gospel ha ha

So you disbelieve everything the club puts out in favour of totally unsubstantiated worrying ha ha
I take things as I find them, and if you think the club don't put out so called positive PR waffle then your not being objective....Remember the statement the club put out regarding Sam leaving pre-season training, he was suppose to be sorting transfers out not talking to the FA, then the club quickly changed it's statement when the story hit the media...I believe in action not words marra...

Likewise there are a group of posters who claim we are doomed every passing day. Yes things seem to be slow, yes im as frustrated as anyone by the lack of signings but its been an awkward summer for one reason or another so I'll hold on till I see the starting lineup for our first game in September.
What about the three games in August? Do we just write them off like every year?

Squad and lack of geniune quality signings with 2 weeks to go before the season starts and use the term bed wetters etc etc

Do they not think that those posters have a very valid point of view.

I am not a bed wetter by any stretch of the imagination but I am a little worried that we only managed to stay up by the skin of our teeth again last year and yet we have a squad as it stands weaker than the one that finished the season

I am over the moon with David moyes as manager but he needs backed to the hilt in the next 4 weeks if we are not to be involved in another relegation battle

Why are people worrying not angry at Sam Allardyce instead of the board ? Oh yeah , because they have an agenda

Whatever happens, which includes not signing anyone which I don't believe will happen, we start the season with a better manager and a better squad than we had last year. It's dead easy to point out weaknesses and forget what a better position we are in this August than last August and that's before you get me started on team spirit. Haaaawwwwaaayyyyyy

No of course not. But the window is open till the end of august so I cant judge how good the window was till it closes.
True, but I think it's fair that people are worrying it looks like we'll be half ready come the start of the season. In the last five Augusts we've taken eight points from a possible 42 so it's no wonder we always end up in the shite from the start and I think people hoped it would be different this time, but if we're going in not at full strength it makes it more difficult to see that happening.

It's too early to panic. It's not ideal but I'm confident we will see some movement soon. 3 in before season, a guess;)

I think we'll see players in this week, we'll have at least 3 in by the time we play City and another 2 - 3 by the time the window closes.

Calm down dear

Remind me how last year's pre season went down, perhaps the worst in living memory

We had a world class manager in Dick Advocaat iirc

If you don't buy enough players, don't replace loan signings, have to rely on more loan signings and gamble on players like Rodwell and Lens then the result is the same

Sauce: Last season and many others

Last summer we had Coates in as soon as the window opened and every other signing we made in by mid July, barring Borini who came in on the 31st August.

While SAFC has had far more bad transfer windows and preseasons than good, each one is different. This one has good and bad elements.

What's good is that the squad is better and more deadwood is gone, and the training and matches in preseason seem to be better and more effectively planned than for some years. We can thank Sam for that although Moyes has kept it ticking over well.

What's bad is that England bombed out v Iceland and Hodgson was sacked before the transfer window even opened. Any deals we may have had on the go were put on hold and the entire transfer window until 8 days ago was beset by uncertainty over who our manager even was going to be. The new manager has decided it seems to spend a week working with the players before deciding on transfer moves, which while reasonable in itself took a significant chunk out of our remaining transfer time. It's far from ideal as we need to get players in and even if he makes tremendous signings, Moyes will still be playing catch up until those players bed in.

All of these challenges would be offset if all the players with knocks are declared fit for opening day, and if we make several decent signings in the next two weeks. If not we could be in deep shit.

However the club has benefited from our previous experienced manager setting us up well in terms of fitness and organisation, and a new experienced manager who knows his way round the transfer market. This isn't the same as PDC and the DoF trolley dash, Congers and Poyet or Congers and Dick. It could still go tits up but at least some of the things the club are doing this summer are better than previous summers

Haven't read the whole thread but by now everyone should know that a lot can happen in 2 weeks, let alone a month. (For Roy Keane, a lot could happen in 12 hours).

Every worry the fans have, the management will feel the same. I'm confident that in Moyes we'll get who he wants by September 1st.

Exciting month ahead....

If it's true that Moyes has identified who he wants and Bain is now working on getting in his targets then we might see movement quite quickly.
If we are looking for quality rather than quantity then it might take longer, I'm sure it's easier to sign a Billy Jones or an Adam Matthews than it is to sign a Fellani (not saying we will get him just using him as an example)
If at the end of the window we have 3/4 quality signings then the wait will be worth it, particularly remembering part of the reason for the wait was totally out of the clubs control.

I can understand people worrying. Like I said im frustrated but do we really need 20 threads a day about it and saying we are doomed and claiming that the club are doing it all deliberately?

They were hamstrung by a confidentiality agreement on that one. Do you honestly believe that the club are just sitting on their hands at the moment, not trying to sign anyone?

Just because nobody has yet put pen to paper doesn't mean the club are actively choosing not to make any moves until the last minute.

Same shit different season, its Groundhog summer again.

You could go back and find exactly the same comments over the past 3 or 4 seasons at the end of the season and throughout the summer.

Usually.

Team is easily good enough to finish top 10.
With the finish to the season our form will easily see us top 10.
We have a new manager that knows what he is doing this time.
Better prepared, team won't give others a head start.
Don't need to change much
etc etc.

For what my opinions worth the team is better, but still lacks 4 or so 1st team decent players that much is glaringly obvious.
It will be better prepared and we do have a decent manager in place.
If the panic sets in we will end up what we have done regularly which is just fill the gaps with expensive bodies on far too much money. This time last years Coates had morphed into a good defender, international bargain etc. which always was total bollocks.

If we don't get the players in then we are in for a long old season again, it really is that simple. We have done it enough times now, so I suppose there is the point of view if it ain't broke don't fix it.
