Why are we so hated in League 1

We haven't been in the top flight. Would I have more respect from you if I was a Scunthonian 'supporting' Liverpool or Man Utd? Then I would support a non-"tinpot" club.

Have I been 'owned' Zig81? I admit it you are too smart for me.

No but its a bit odd having meltdowns all over our pizza cup match thread and this one because you haven't achieved what we have.

After the shit we have had to put up with over the years, why do these clubs, managers and their fans seem to detest us so much. The way Robinson and Barton have gone on making out that we are a bunch of arseholes that have referees in our pockets and are cheating our way out of the league. Surely its the opposite. I hope to fuck we get out of this league this time and leave these dickheads in our rear view mirror.
Because we are the big fish in this league one pond.

We’re their world in this shithouse league. Every game is a cup final when they play us. Things were even when we had our hands tied by FFP and the previous owners Eastleigh model.
It’s kicking off because we are matching these clubs shithousery and beating them.

This attitude is exactly why we are hated. Who the fuck do some of our fans think we are?

We are a above average League One team but some of us think we’re Barcefuckinglona

Imagine you're a poxy little club with attendances that rarely get beyond 5k... you're basically skint and there's not much sign of commercial sponsorship coming in, regardless of on-field performances, such is your irrelevance. There's more chance of you going to non-league than Premier League which is always going to limit your growth and your chances of attracting any decent player to your club.

However, there's a big fish swimming near by. If you want to talk-up your little club and try and get some reflective value off this big fish then you have to talk about them as often as possible.

You might not be able to go up a level, but you can try and keep them down at yours.. knowing that they'll help bring in a few more pennies whilst they're down alongside you. Your players will puff their chests out when this other team are mentioned, your chairman will see the dollar signs when their fans hit town... while your fans will feel a little more 'big-time', seeing their clubs name in the same sentence as a team who used to be on Match of the Day every week.

It's THAT easy. It's Sunderland playing that big-fish role right now but it was Leeds a few seasons ago and Forest and the Sheffield teams have had it too (and likely will again next season, in Wednesdays case). Little Joey has played this card to perfection in the last few years and his scouse mate knows he's out of a job, when he fails to make the play-offs, so he's going to jump on that bandwagon, too. Pompey do it that often they'll be including mention of it in their club motto before much longer.

Its all a bit sad but I guess it pays the bills.

A good summary but we think we are Barcafuckinlona apparently.

It’s ridiculous, we’ve been shitter than shit at times, the size of club/stadium/fanbase makes no difference if we can’t win games.
They are happy when we rock up at away grounds in our 1000’s though and fill their coffers.

It’s the terms “smashing tin pot clubs” “we will piss this league (said after our premier and championship relegations)” “because we are f***ing Sunderland” and the personal insults I don’t like.

Our six league titles were over 85 years ago, our last major trophy was 48 years ago and as much as some will not admit it we do have arrogant fans.

Someone asked why we are hated, other fans give their opinion (considering they may well know) and they just get insults.
***************

I’m not upset at being hated by other fans at all I’m embarrassed by some of our fans behaviour, there’s a distinct difference. No need for the personal insults.

Don't get the thread, who hates us? (apart from Joey Barton and the mag population of the world)
People may envy us because we are a big team in the third tier, but hate us, haven't seen that from people from other teams that post on here (Swindon on tour etc.)

If you object to being called "tinpot", you get called thick and all the names under the sun.

I agree with that point.

To be fair when we have fans like you who like to have digs at our great support we don’t need others coming on here to tell us.

If we are being honest here, hone and away apart from shitty clubs like Pompey and Coventry we have no issues, we drink with fans home and away with very little trouble, we are very self aware of how far we have fallen and if we’d had a competent owner along with a competent manager, personally, I believe we would have smashed this tinpot league.

The ones that hate us have a misconception that we're entitled, that we think we should win every week. Then in the next breath they talk about how funny it is that we're so shite despite how much bigger our budget/club is. It's quite contradictory.

Fuck me man and people wonder why we are hated
FFS man ! Going on like Mother Teresa. We’re not Barcelona. We’re not even in the Championship.
We’ve spent 3 seasons playing teams who have given us a lesson in shithousery. Clubs and manager’s with chips on their shoulders taking the piss . Not anymore!

Not having a dig at all, I’ve explained why I think people may hate us.

In case you hadn’t noticed we haven’t “smashed” this “tin pot l ague” in three seasons.

I've heard certain clubs and managers tell us that we're ignorant and come over all big-time... but when I say certain types, i'm thinking Pompey, Coventry and the odd dickhead like Barton. But we've had some great days out, made a few friends, and had some great banter with quite a few more so I'd suggest that it's those who choose to pick that fight who come off looking like fools.

Travelling up and down the country supporting us funnily enough I’ve seen that, maybe if you actually took onboard what I said that would be fairly obvious.

I’ll repeat it again, just so it is clear. If, take note of the word if. If we had competent owners and a competent manager, as we have now, we would have smashed this tinpot league, I’d go as far to say if we’d had the manager we have now from the beginning of this season we would be sitting pretty at the top of the league.
