Why are we so hated in League 1

After the shit we have had to put up with over the years, why do these clubs, managers and their fans seem to detest us so much. The way Robinson and Barton have gone on making out that we are a bunch of arseholes that have referees in our pockets and are cheating our way out of the league. Surely its the opposite. I hope to fuck we get out of this league this time and leave these dickheads in our rear view mirror.
Fuck them. That will do 👍

I can recall our first season in L1, we were getting players sent off left right and centre, costing us games, when in reality the oppo players were getting them sent off. We most certainly were not a dirty side and the fact we had so many rescinded tells its own story of poor refereeing and opposition gamesmanship (ok, cheating).

So now the tables are starting to turn, things are going for us for a change and thank God they are. Let’s get out of this shithouse league once and for all!

I wouldn't say you are hated at all,not by other fans anyway. I think we can discount the rantings of Barton and Robinson aswell. I do think though that the tendency for you Mackems to refer to this league as shitty and tin pot
doesn't reflect well on you.

This 👆👏

We get stick for apparently being arrogant and we need to 'realise we are a League 1 club' but yet the same people then criticise us for celebrating when we win a game or score a late goal. We get 'This is Sunderland....Premier League 3/4 years ago...celebrating like you've won the world cup because you've scored in League 1'

Can't win really.......one thing is for definite - I cannot wait to get out of this hellhole of a league.
Keep winning and we will be, then the long journey back to the premier league begins

Everyone hated us including the ref's and the FA when we arrived in league 1. Any manager would happily say "I'd love it if we beat them" ala Keegan. It's still the case with some league 1 regulars like Oxford & Gillingham, but for many now it's "I'd love to play football for/against Sunderland", or at least try to match them in a game of football like Rochdale did for example.

I don't think we are. In all the times I've seen other fans forums, the dislike has been the minority.

You get negative folk everywhere, but I've been surprised how complimentary folk have been on the whole.

I'd echo the tinpot, and billy big bollocks does us no favours.

There’s never been an outcry of injustice from our fans that we’re in League One. We deserved to end up here and as yet we haven’t done enough to get out of it. The idea the club and supporters have had some big time attitude doesn’t hold water for me.

Lets face it outside of the Championship these lower two leagues are Tinpot.

We are not accustomed to being where we have been for so long.

Its like putting a pedigree in a class/show of mongrels the pedigree will shine through. Nothing against mongrels mind I have one.

Fuck the tinpot leagues and clubs.....onwards and upwards.

Absolutely Spot on !!!
I don't think we have a ' Billy Bollocks ' attitude at all. There's always a few in the minority, but on the whole I believe our club and fans have been very respectful of the other clubs in this league.

As we are by far the biggest club in the division its a given everyone sees us a scalp. City, Leeds and to a lesser extent Southampton had it too.

The clubs who are at this level know even if they go up they will struggle and end up back there while hopefully we can kick on. There's also the financial benefits in normal times of 5000 Sunderland fans adding to their slush fund.

Take it as a compliment that we are not meant to be in this League.

This is by no means a Billy Bollocks statement. Its fact.

Like comparing them to mongrels you mean ?

Fact is, we've been too long at this level. Its no good for us and its no good for them.

It was "some entertainment" to have a fringe-Premier level club in L1 for a season - "everyone's cup final" to beat us. But 3 years in and that novelty has worn off.
We're (quite reasonably) vocal about needing to get out of the league because we're too big for it, and they're sick of hearing it.

I've never seen that on here, but I have seen lots of gravy.
Post 90 in THIS thread.
The attitude shown by the vast majority of people in this thread alone is all the evidence you need to show why opposing fans have a dislike for your club.

Downright disrespectful, and then having the audacity to state things like 'we dont have a billy bollocks attitude'.
I've said it before - you lot slate your neighbours for being deluded and entitled, yet dont seem to realise the condescending attitude shown to fans /managers of clubs that are actually playing at your level (and in some cases, above).
