Why are we so hated in League 1

Travelling up and down the country supporting us funkily enough I’ve seen that, maybe if you actually took onboard what I said that would be fairly obvious.

I’ll repeat it again, just so it is clear. If, take note of the word if. If we had competent owners and a competent manager, as we have now, we would have smashed this tinpot league, I’d go as far to say if we’d had the manager we have now we would be sitting pretty at the top of the league.

But we haven’t, if is the biggest word in the English language anyway I’ll leave it at that.

And that is why I have reiterated the point if, what is difficult for you to grasp this basic concept?

I have never said we should be smashing this tinpot league, I have gave my opinion as to why and how we could have, no matter how many times I have said it, you seem to not be able to understand this basic explanation.

Just a question for Scunny Dan.

Why did you have a meltdown in the pizza game??

I noticed that too on that thread.

Don't get the thread, who hates us? (apart from Joey Barton and the mag population of the world)
People may envy us because we are a big team in the third tier, but hate us, haven't seen that from people from other teams that post on here (Swindon on tour etc.)
We aren’t a big team though, for me the team is the players, not the club or the academy or the fanbase.
And, the team hasn’t been big, if it had been we’d have been promoted before now. Team wise we are as good or as bad as the league position tells us we are.
Yet we keep getting this shit from other clubs.

This attitude is exactly why we are hated. Who the fuck do some of our fans think we are?

We are a above average League One team but some of us think we’re Barcefuckinglona

Above average league 1 team:

3rd in league with games in hand to go top and half the squad out injured for half of the season.
Best form in last 5
Best form in last 10
Best form in last 15
Best form in last 20
Best form in last 25
Best form in last 30
League cup final winners.
Spent more on one player than all the clubs combined.
Highest budget it in the league
Best player in the league.
Largest stadium in the league.
Best facilities in the league.
Largest fanbase in the league.
Employing top half championship managers.
Taking staff off championship clubs

All whilst being at the lowest league position the club has ever been in.

Meanwhile the team we played yesterday has a car park for a stand and the team we played last week has an actual gazebo for one.

Janey have to respectfully disagree, in this division we are a big team IMO (as are Portmouth and Charlton). Before the covid lockdown a lot of clubs did very well out of our away support alone, and the fact we could still draw 46,000 against the likes of Bradford still makes us a big team, no matter what division we are in or how badly we are playing, or what team we turn out.

Hated? No chance!!
You shouldn`t be here and, Covid not withstanding, its a financial boost for every club in the League that you are.
You are one of the "big fish" in with some small clubs... it`s what happens in the League pyramid and what makes the football league fun.
Anyone can rise to the top, or sink like a stone....

Imagine you're a poxy little club with attendances that rarely get beyond 5k... you're basically skint and there's not much sign of commercial sponsorship coming in, regardless of on-field performances, such is your irrelevance. There's more chance of you going to non-league than Premier League which is always going to limit your growth and your chances of attracting any decent player to your club.
...
Its all a bit sad but I guess it pays the bills.

Read Southend ... playing vs us recent years, but now in danger of relegation to non league.

You left out 3 more camera angles    than the other clubs in the league

Not sure the spending more on one player thingy is anything to gloat about.
It was class I suppose.

We are a big club, no doubt, but being a big club is different to being a big team for me.
Team wise we are only as good as the team on the pitch. And at times we’ve been poo.
I am an alcoholic and was absolutey hammered and hateful that day.
I hope you get the support you need xx

I think I can live without having earning your respect sunshine. Its you throwing the insults and name calling around, not me.
you appear to have a massive chip on your shoulder.

there are sunderland fans who have absolutely acted and talked like we are too good to be in the third division but they are few and far between. we are where we are because we are shite on the pitch but off it you won't find a more humble set of fans imo.

Did you mean to quote someone else?

My post above was on the relegation zone in League Two and how some of those clubs were in League One a year or two ago.
So indeed for many clubs in League One, this is their high point, low point is non-league.

Historically Sunderland's high and low points are Tiers 1 and 3, not surprising to see the reactions around us, it is what it is.

Also came across a video recently on YouTube of all time goals scored in Tier 1. We peaked at #2 (almost made it to #1) and currently still in the top 10.

So as we have the best form in the league over the last 30 games, won a divisional cup, and are on course to finish top of the league, would that be enough to have a 'big team' in this league?

I believe I was only responding to the folk slinging the insults and not generalising.

envy, blame culture, ability or lack of and just plain old cheating. We’ve watched from the ridiculous to the down right annoying to try and get the upper hand against us at this level and this no different, we now stand up to this shite and we’re the bad guys! I f***ing loved what Power done and showed me two things, we’re no longer a soft touch and they are finally a unit who protect each other! I’v not seen that since Allerdyce and for the 1st time in years, I’m excited! haway the lads!👏👏👏
Good post, nailed it.

I did soz. It's so easy to slip downwards but a lot harder to climb for sure.
All footy fans are the same everywhere, it's just a laugh to me, my club spent 5 years in non- league ( Luton ) drawing with bath university a particular highlight.

Our fans thought we were Brazil and everyone's cup final, we got up eventually but other fans had 5 years of laughter to remember forever.
