Why are Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales so religious compared to England?

I think people are confusing the cultural identification with religious observance when it comes to Scotland.
If you live near a Sainsburys Local or Tesco Express they’re open till 11pm on Sundays. It’s stores over a certain size that have restricted trading hours.
Aye see that's not really a thing up here, Supermarkets treat Sunday as any other day, albeit they might close an hour earlier if they aren't 24/7

Oooh that's interesting can you elaborate, do you mean a certain allegiance to a certain football team or something else?

to an extent, but even the football allegiance is a blur. It's more about the clash between the lowland Scots protestant culture (with a small p) and the immigrant Irish culture, particularly in the central belt.
Just because a lot of areas still have their own internal, implict separation between the two doesn't mean that either side is particularly observant on a week to week basis.

Scotland, for example, after reformation was Presbyterian - probably resulting in them being generally more religiously extreme (relatively) that the English

I can't understand anyone getting into or obsessed by religion. All a pile of shite, Dave Allen was right "my god is better than your god". I'm all for shop & other Sunday workers getting a decent pay for their labours. It's religion that causes most bloody wars

My missus (a southerner) can’t understand why I get so emotional about my men in shorts kicking a ball into a net more than another town’s men in shorts.

Weird old world isn’t it.
