Who were the thickos who reckoned Carroll wouldn't score many in the PL?

Tell you what if he gets to 15 for the season he will have done really well. Take a look back on how many goals the PL top scorers have got in years gone by. Other than the world class ones who have got 30 the rest do really well to get 15 to 20.

In the 07/08 season, Anelka won the golden boot with 19 goals didn't he? Sure he sealed it with a goal against us on the last day

Agreed mate, a lot to do with your teams performances and your fitness. I still think any striker playing week in week out should easily be hitting 10 goals a season for a side in the top half.

This.

Gyan, Bent, Welbeck > Carroll
I hate him as a person because he is an utter wanker so wouldn't have him at the club full stop

But as a player he would act as a great foil for either Bent or Gyan

This.

Gyan, Bent, Welbeck > Carroll

Seeing as Gyan and Bent cost us in the region of £25m, I would hope so, and Welbeck has got a ways to go yet. One tap in last week hardly puts him into the top echelon of Premier League strikers. I hope he carries on developing, while he's with us, but I don't see him as the big threat to Premier League defences that Carroll is already proving to be just yet.

It seems a few people have had their feathers ruffled, and are finding it hard to come to terms with how well the lad is doing. He's a cock, but if you can't see some footballing potential, then you really need to think about taking up tiddlywinks, or some other hobby where thoughtful analysis isn't required.

I think most people agree he looks decent...but don't go overboard until he's proved he can do it for more than half a season.

Welbecks goal is irrelevent. He is a far better footballer than Carroll. Carrolls 1st touch is abysmal. He will be found out sooner rather than later

I made no comment publicly but I had the feeling that he'd be one of those players who could be an absolute donkey or a right handful.

I think what you've also got to consider is that he's in his first season and may well, in time, be found out. I still think time will tell, though if I were a betting man I'd say he'll be a moderate success who is let down by a lack of versatility.

Harewood and Varney are doing well too, should we eat humble pie about those too, as I expect most thought they wouldn't score in the Premier League either.

cos it's symptomatic of some on here who can't tell their footballing arse from their elbow. Those comparing him to Kyle

dinnar if you are a Sunderland supporter or not, but if you are !!! to come on here and call Sunderland supporters "THICKOS" cos a greasy haired gypo piece of wife beating scum has scored a few more goals than people thought !!!! what a prick u are

For the record, I said he'd be in double figures

I thought Varney, along with Dean Ashton, always looked like good prospects when we played Crewe. Harewood is a goalscoring journeyman who will always pop them in if he gets the service. Carroll, in my opinion, will make a higher impact than either of those two.

I stand to be corrected, and will admit it if I'm proven wrong.

you have anger management issues, young fella me lad

He's a handful, defenders can't deal with him. The fact is he's not a great finisher or particularly fast but he has great workrate and his strength/aerial ability is always a worry.

Canny finish for his goal today, and his shot that hit the bar from a difficult angle wasn't half bad either.

He's got a bit of everything for me.
