What identity?
The badge has been changed before and when Murray announced the name for the new stadium ,people were up in arms .
Our identity is our history and the clubs magnificent support , changing the badge ,again , and selling naming rights ,isn't going to harm it .
Nailed it. Absolutely 100% spot on.

Obviously balancing the books etc etc
But are people enjoying the 'havent got a pot to piss in " scenario ?

Talk about selling the stadium name and changing our badge to "simplify"
It pisses me off personally just to make a few quid. Surely if Methven is as good as people say on here he wouldn't have to sell our stadium name to raise a few quid?

I'm loving the players we have brought in for next to nothing , proper trier's and what we need in this league

I'm really enjoying the footy side of it but the talk of the selling our identity is proper shite like
dont mind the stadium being sponsored and don’t mind changing the badge. Also happy not to be ripped off by all and sundry.

Depends what they do with the cash. If it's to pay for a grands worth of flowers a month then I'm not in favour. If it's used to open a pipeline of young world beaters from South America, then crack on and the quicker the better.

Personally, I think the owners want every £ to work as hard as it can.

Not fussed at all about selling stadium naming rights. Why do people get so attached to stuff like that? They could call it the 'Pedigree Chum Arena' for all I care.

I’m pleased you’re not chairman

We would be barking mad to do that!...taxi!

Well it's hardly pretentious
It was made by Bob Murray to remember the workers of Sunderland
Our roots
Nowt more important than the people Sunderland
Like the name or not you can’t call Bob Murray’s reasoning for the name pretentious at all in my opinion.

Tv money in this league is virtually non existent and we’re still on course to make a £5 million loss this year as it is. I couldn’t give a shiny shite if someone wants to give us a few quid to call the ground Stadio Beko or something.

Every penny counts, we aren’t getting £100 million from Sky anymore.

I agree but on the operating loss side things are actually pretty rosy.

That 5m figure ignores 20m of parachute payments due next year, so we can really run for four years at break even if we have to.

It also ignores any income from future player sales.

It is wiped out if just three high wage players go - Catts, Oviedo and McGeady.

And it also disappears if we get promoted, which looks a good shout at the moment.

Imagine trying to run a football club like a proper business, what a novel idea.

We were pretty much bust at the end of last season. Well over a £100M in debt and in the 3rd tier of English football. Only the parachute payments were keeping the wolves from the door but that cash cow was in its last 2 years. Thankfully Ellis wiped the debt and also found a couple of clever investors. Now we are pretty much debt free and long may that continue. If we have to cut our cloth to keep largely debt free, selling naming rights or players that's just being professional.

We need to be sustainable. It will be a hard task to get promoted back to the premier league running the club on a tight budget but that's the challenge the new owners and Jack Ross will hopefully face next.

I think the name Stadium of Light lends its name to being sponsored by one of the Utility companies - Scottish Power Stadium of Light.

But but but - we can only be classed as a big club if we are spending £100 million on players who are shite, don't want to play for us and don't have the revenue to support this.

What a load of shite. The stadium of light is our identity
And by changing the badge of course it will harm us!! Will have to rip seats back out , rip down the gates outside the main stand , doesnt even bear thinking about the cost and harm it would cause
