They've stated they want an English head coach. Then again what the board says and what the board does are two very different things lately.

They haven't actually. It was suggested by the Italian journo who said that di Matteo wouldn't be coming. The club have said that they have an open mind on the next appointment.

Ahh I see. I only saw it on here, should probably have looked for a source first! Thanks for clearing that up.

I'll start off...
Robert Di Matteo - Winning the Champions League masks the fact that he really isn't a very good manager. No
Tony Pulis - I'd rather sell my soul to the devil! No
Gus Poyet - I can't see Short going down that road! Unless he meant to employ Poyet in the first place but mistakenly got Di Canio instead. No
Alex McLeish - At the game on Saturday. God please No!
Steve McLaren - No!
Zola - Done nothing! No.
So who then?

Not popular at all but out of the options I think I'd have to go for McClaren. Knows the area, knows the league, happy to work as a head coach (and has a good track record in the position), seems to have a good knowledge of different systems and players plus I respect anyone who is prepared to go abroad to learn more about the game and enhance their reputation, it beats just sitting around as a pundit waiting for a dream job to be offered. I also feel that he would be happy to stay long term and, if the worst came to the worst and we went down (which is highly likely having seen 3 of our better players from last season, when we were shit, leave and not be replaced with quality) I think he would be a decent shout to get us back up again. He has more experience than Di Matteo and, much though he is hardly a harsh disciplinarian, I just get the feeling that the players wouldn't be able to take the piss out of him as much as they might with Di Matteo in there.

He's had his nightmares of course, England particularly (although international football is so different it's hard to read much into that) but I think he's done enough with other clubs to be worth another shot, seems to have been written off but I think he'd be a fairly safe pair of hands and a better pick than some of the other names that are getting thrown about. Like I say, I know it wouldn't be a popular appointment but something about Di Matteo (probably the most likely) is just sounding warning bells in my head.

All things considered I`d probably agree GG. That said, the list of potential candidates is not the best mind

The list of candidates is worse than that, its pretty horrendous to be honest, I wouldn't be particularly happy with any. Really not happy about the sacking tbh, we've just given all the power to the players and they have done fuck all to deserve it. If we appoint a shite manager, do crap and get relegated these players won't be taking pay cuts and fighting to get us back, they'll fuck off to the highest bidder. Really disillusioned with the game in general at the minute to be honest.

Pulis wouldn't be as bad as people think, he would get them organized and to beat, it wouldn't be pretty, but i am confident he could keep us up this season.[DOUBLEPOST=1379935130][/DOUBLEPOST]

If I'm honest, I'm struggling to pick a name from that list. If we go down the English route, then its McClaren however I think we will go foreign
