Rangers have turned down a bid from Leeds of £10 million for Ryan Kent

Obviously Leeds play in a much better league so can attract better players, higher wages, etc

But I think Glasgow Rangers are an absolutely huge club (likewise Celtic) .... In fact I'd put them above Leeds in terms of passionate support, stadium and if were placed in English league would be a huge draw for many players.
Leeds are playing in far a superior league. So I'd say Leeds.

Leeds honours
League x 3
FA Cup x 1
League Cup x 1

Dont get why Leeds are even viewed as a big club. Historically Leeds has been more a Rugby league area.
Agree with this, they've had some shit attendances in the top flight over the years, huge city, with an even bigger catchment area too. I'd even hazard a guess that throughout their history they have spent more time in the 2nd division than the top flight. If I'm wrong then I know I'll be close

I've just went back to the 60s and they have only averaged over 40k 3 times.

Both big clubs historically. Every Rangers and Celtic fan I’ve spoke to, think they’re the biggest clubs in Britain after Man Utd and Liverpool. I personally disagree on that, but I’d put them in the top 10 probably.

Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in the world

Rangers are far bigger than Leeds. Half of Scotland supports them. Look at the numbers in Manchester for the uefa Cup final. Leeds wouldn't come close to that.

But with leeds being in the premier league they obviously have more money to spend on players so will have the financial power to take players off rangers.

Rangers by a mile.

Rangers and Celtic would be as big as Liverpool and United if they were in the English league, nobody realises just how big both these two clubs are. Even Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen would be big clubs if they received the finances from the English league.

Exactly. Whether people on here like it or not, Rangers are a global brand, as are Celtic. They both have a worldwide fan base. I wouldn't class Leeds in that bracket.

I’m not sure I would call them a global brand.

I just see them as a decently-ish supported team outside of the UK due to the Scottish diaspora. As much as Galatasaray or Fenerbahce are with Turkish people around the world. I just don’t think you could call any of them a global ‘brand’.

I think Celtic, because they have a sizeable amount of Ireland rooting for them as well as the green parts of the West of Scotland, are a global brand. Albeit playing in a supremely uneven league.

Under what criteria are Leeds bigger than Rangers ?

The only thing Leeds have over Rangers is the country they play in.

Rangers are an absolutely massive club.
Glasgow Rangers are a far bigger football club.

The Premier League, where Leeds are currently polluting, has a huge wealth basis and therefore trumps all leagues.

Ergo, the signing of a player is completely irrelevant, unless you love spamming.

Enjoyed that.

Not sure about those last three being ‘big’ even with money.

Last time Hibs had an average attendance of at least 20k? 1957/58 season.

Hearts? 1960/61 season.

Aberdeen? Only had 20k average – and it was exactly 20k – once since 1972/73 (1989/90 season).

And this was all pre-Premier League and the riches that ensued.

There are probably 30-40 English clubs who were averaging more than 20k in the 60s and 70s – back when there was far more parity financially between the leagues. These three were lucky to scrape together 15k then.

Aberdeen and the Edinburgh clubs aren’t big in English football terms now, and not then either I’m afraid.
