Who actually was the greatest centre half the world has ever seen?

English: I always thought Ledley King could have been the real deal.

If not Tony Adams was an absolute rock for Arsenal and England.

The world: Desailly,Maldini, Cannavaro, Stam or Nadal.

I'm only 28 like.

Hurley, Hurley, Hurley, Hurley and Hurley then Watson.

Booby Moore was not a centre half he was a "left-half".

Billy Wright was not as good as he thought he was. He was good but not that good - watch him against Hungary in 53 he was an embarrassment. That was when he was at his best.

Played over 200 games at cb for Milan.

After his legs had gone and at the end of his career he moved to centre half as full back was too much for him.

Fabulous full back but not even Milan's best centre half by that time.

Having just looked it up he played 232 games at CB out of 647 in total in serie A that over 1/3 of the league games he played would suggest it was a bit more than the last few years of his career.

Put the shovel down man. Costacurta and Nesta were better centre backs. Paolo was a fullback who when he began to lose pace prolonged his career extensively by reverting to full back and relying on his positional sense and anticipation. I've watched all three of them play on various occasions and I can tell you Maldini was a great centre half, but he was not the greatest in that position in the Milan team, nor were Milan the top team in Italy during his tenure at centre half.

I'm not the one with the shovel mate it's my opinion and I'm intilted to it,you are the one backtracking over how often he played at cb and went from saying he never played cb until his legs had gone to calling him a great CB make your mind up pal.

Listen Maldini was a great CB. He was a wonderful full back though. You mistakenly started by saying he was your shout for the best CH ever when in reality this was the weakest of his two positions and only one he reverted to when his physical attributes began to slide. Of his seven Serie A titles, only one was won when he was at fullback after the late nineties. Do you realise he was already 32 in 2000? The last ten or so years of his career at CB were a pale shadow of his career during the nineties and late eighties.

It's OK to be wrong sometimes.

We're debating. Fair do mate. I'm stuck in Andorra, it's been a long week.

Promise me one thing though, you'll never call Paolo the best centre half n your lifetime again ;)

Of course you can't be wrong if it's ur opinion, that said, you'd rate Maldini a better cb than say jap Stam?, both played in ur life time but I'd say Stam was twice the cb Maldini ever was.
