Been touched upon in the Hales and Rashid threads, but wanted to get people's opinions on the white ball contract as a whole.
It isn't necessarily a new thing, when the WI lads have pretty much been doing it for a few years now - but it's now coming into our domestic game.
Frankly, it worries me, because it proves things have began to slide too far towards T20 and the money, than Test cricket. I'm not suggesting for one second that I blame any individual player either - I suppose when faced with 4 overs, a bit of fielding and maybe a quick slog, it's immediately more palatable than having the toil of bowling 20-30 overs in a day of county championship cricket. Certainly by way of hourly rate.
Martin Moxon said he wouldn't be granting too many more players the same luxury afforded to Rashid, but the truth is, he may not have that much say...... Certainly though he's fortunate, because Yorkshire are one of only a few clubs who could afford to pander to players in such a way. Imagine a club like us, or Northants, or Derbyshire being given an ultimatum by one of their top players about such a deal?
It's been noted by many that Mark Wood may indeed eventually plump for this kind of deal and I have to say, the way 'Team England' have fucked him over time and time again it'd hardly be a surprise if he wanted to jack in the red ball stuff. Problem is, could we afford him? Unfortunately I think it's a luxury we wouldn't be able to indulge in.
It'll only get worse too when the franchise bullshit comes into the fore.
I have a genuine fear that it could spell the end for many counties and worsstill, for the County Championship as a whole.
