Why is Rodwell still not breaking into the starting eleven ?
Coleman looks a good prospect, though not quite in Rodwells class bracket, yet he seems to be coming a regular. Whys Moyes holding the kid back ?

Think the main reasons are Fellaini, Arteta, Heitinga, Cahill, Pienaar. Five experienced and very good footballers. They also have Osman and "Billy", who are decent players. If he could play centre forward, he would have a chance. Saha, Beckford and Yakubu have been poor apparently.

They have some tremendous midfielders. In fact, the midfield of Arteta, Pienaar, Cahill and Fellaini is probably the best outside the top 5 or so clubs. It has everything. Power and presence of Fellaini, the goals of Cahill, the pace of Pienaar, and the sheer class of Arteta. I'd happily swap that 4 for any four of our midfield.

Thankfully their strikers are shit/crippled and their defence very mediocre.

You would have one hell of a team if you combined our strikers and goalkeeper with their midfield. Then cobbled together as good a defence as possible out of the two.

But....if hes as good as the pundits say (and when i've seen him, he certainly looks it) he should be getting more game time. Certainly ahead of heitinga who is 35 (??). If he doesn't break through soon he'll end up going backwards i reckon.
Like i say they seem to be blooding coleman in fine, so why not Rodwell ?

Jagielka and Baines are both good players and Phil Neville is, well, Phil Neville. I think their weakspots are Howard and the strikers, like you say.

27 - you may be getting him mixed up with van Bommel, who is 33 (and who I've just noticed I share my birthday with). Heitinga is used as their midfield destroyer anyway (I tend to think he's a better centre back than midfielder) - I don't think Rodwell will be that.

I'm sceptical as to how good jagielka is as a defender. Not hugely convinced. Prefer him as a defensive midfielder.

I also think Howard is better than people give him credit for, he's just made a handful of prominent howlers. Just not as good as Craig.

Rodwell's been struggling with injuries off and on for a while now, when you've made the poor start to a season they have a settled midfield is more important than blooding a youngster. Heitinga is 26 and a dutch international by the way.

They don't have quite the same strength in defence and Coleman has been in good form for a while now - including being part of blackpool's promotion winning team last year.

oops. Well in that case i take it back. Dunno why i thought he was 35. doesn't even look older than 30.

Well, now he's fit and Everton have stabelised a bit i'd expect Rodwell to start coming through a bit. I'm excited to see more of him from the snippets we've had so far. looks the complete package to me.

To answer the question hes been injured since playing Villa away in mid august and just returned from the injury in the last few weeks

He should be ok to start instead of Heitinga on Monday after having a run out for the England U21s. If so i think we've got a chance, if not you'll probably win.

We are very strong at home most of the time, Villa, Man U and Chelsea were the only teams to beat us last season at the SoL, while this season we have beaten Villa and Man City and drawn against Man U and Arsenal. One thing that works in your favour is we don't win two games in a row, we did it once last season and that was against Burnley and Hull, having said that last season we only won twice away and that was against Hull and Bolton, mind this season we've managed to outplay Chelsea and comfortably beat them. I'm not sure what my point was now, I suppose what I'm trying to say is anything can happen

As has been said he's been injured. The midfield this season simply hasn't got going and he'll be back in ASAP.

Arteta has been dreadful, Osman struggles against top sides and is injured, Fellaini had injuries and Heitinga looks lost in midfield. Bily doesn't look as though he's going to make it and Cahill isn't a midfielder really.

Coleman has done well but when all is said and done he's a full back playing on the wing. Pienaar has also worked hard.

All in all disappointing from the middle men so far.

Defence is pretty solid though.
