Which year was the best year for music?

1976

Rush - 2112
Rush - All The World`s A Stage
Rainbow - Rising
Blue Oyster Cult - Agents of Fortune
KISS - Destroyer
KISS - Rock and Roll Over
Boston - Boston
Aerosmith - Rocks
Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak

Just watched an early darkness gig with daughter n shr comments how class crowd looks. I say do you know why?
Next gig was a recent one n every twat filming ffs!

!979 for me personally but it's generational
I'm sure my older brother would say 1971

I'm sure I read somewhere that those 2 years were regarded by the record industry as the greatest 2 years in the history of recorded music

I dont think there can be a BEST year for music - just one where there were lots of releases you liked. Although that is a good list and I like most of them.

That sounds like possibly the worst year ever, good job I was too young to experience it

   Magnificent year. You`d love it if you were a bit older and hadn`t had your mind befuzzled with all that electronic stuff ;)

To be honest that period from 75-85 is the golden decade for me. Lots of great stuff either side and today too, but that 10 year period is gold dust musically.
Youve got to love the rock maaan !!!

Good one Jeff - quite possibly the best song ever :D

Ronnie was the best singer Ritchie ever had, I loved his voice.

And that Rising line up was superb too.

I was torn between 88 and 89 because of the birth of acid house in 88 but the albums released in 1989 are off the scale.

‘Technique’ New Order
‘The Stone Roses’ The Stone Roses
‘Pretty Hate Machine’ NIN
‘Paul’s Boutique’ Beastie Boys
‘Foundation’ Ten City
‘Disintegration’ The Cure
‘Hats’ The Blue Nile
‘Quadrastate’ 808 State
‘Paradise’ Inner City
‘Doolittle’ Pixies
‘Raw Luke Sushi’ Neneh Cherry
‘Club Classics Vol I’ Soul II Soul
‘Straight Outta Compton’ NWA
‘Oranges and Lemons’ XTC
‘Hup’ The Wonder Stuff

One of my all time favourite albums in that list

Very easy - it's 1967. Summer of love. Piper at the gates of dawn amongst some great albums.
1970 for example:-

Led Zeppelin III
After The Gold Rush
Moondance
All Things Must Pass
Cosmos Factory
Funhouse
Black Sabbath/Paranoid
Deep Purple In Rock
Lola Vs Powerman
Let It Be
Morrison Hotel
Blood On The Tracks
Bridge Over Troubled Water
Plastic Ono Band
Band of Gypsys
Loaded
The Madcap Laughs

First Glastonbury, famous Doors gig where Morrison is arrested for getting his cock out, Joplin and Hendrix die starting the 27 club (even though others had died at this age previously.

Last ever gigs for Joplin, Hendrix, The Doors. The Beatles officially split.
Madcap laughs is 69
