Which fans do you respect the most?

When someone tells me they support Man Utd and they are from the Midlands, London etc... I immediately stop listening to what they are saying.

So what is the difference between this and say a Sunderland supporter with a cockney or midlands accent? Nothing wrong with being a second generation supporter or following a club with no geographical link. We’ve had Irish fans due to Charlie Hurley / Niall Quinn / Roy Keane etc. What’s the problem?

Nah, the OP is a friend of mine though

Top, top chap anarl

I've no doubt he's a top chap but with Mag leanings hence his 'leading question' OP.

Nothing wrong with supporting who you choose as long as you're not embarrassed about it ;)

Always had a soft spot for Sheff wed fans in the 70s they always brought a few to roker got chased all over but came back the next season again and we always took loads to their place as well, :)

Nowt wrong with the Mags in general, my best marra and his old man are both black and whites and are like family.
That said nowt worse than post Keegan, Durham Mags. Perma chip on shoulder and always looking for another scout badge to prove how "Toon" they really are.

Direct answer to the op, Mags all day long.

And I always love the “I’ve supported them my whole life” to try and justify it.
They’ve been winning pretty much their whole lives.

There’s a lad I know from Newcastle (cramlington actually) but he support Liverpool. Unless the mags are doing well then he’s a “proud Geordie” they’re the worst kind.... them and Durham mags

I also know a lad from crammy like that too, wonder if same one

So he reckons his parents were evacuated from presumably rural Oxfordshire, then placed in a City that had its own blitz?

To be fair evacuated might not have been the right word.....think his family became displaced and had a relative in Manchester where they could stay for a short time. Whatever,it was the most meagre connection from which to claim any reason for allegiance. Furthermore,I haven't seen him for years, but I don't think he's ever actually been to a match.

People that support the team because of family connections

Have relations down the country that could have picked glory teams

No red and white as they come

How can you respect anyone who deliberately changes their accent to appear more Geordie than Jimmy Nail

Some of my sons team mates n dads follow pools allover with a smile on their face.
Doing that when theres little chance of league football, or 4th tier at best, no days in the sun at wembley, unlikely to get past fa cup 3rd round etc. Very unrewarding. Huge respect.

Then you get a ‘gooner’ on talksport claiming that theyre cursed ffs!

Not really can’t understand criticism of Newcastle fans for simply supporting the club that has been part of their upbringing and local area.
That’s not what we criticise them for.

My dad (83 yo) was through my brothers house in Gosforth last week in and he had his SAFC jacket on. He was waiting to turn right and a mag with his whole family in the car slowed down and wound his window down, gestured for my dad to do the same then proceeded to abuse him verbally. I live in Whitley Bay and regularly get comments from mag strangers when I’ve got anything SAFC related on. I criticise Mags not because they support their home town club but because my experience of most of them is that, when it comes to SAFC, they are all utter dickheads.

What about people like me who live in Dublin but support Sunderland?!

Just for the record, I do support my local club Bohemians and I'm involved in my local non-league club.

That's why I supported Sunderland. My dad use to go to Ireland matches when they played in Dalymount Park. Charlie Hurley was his favourite player so he started to support Sunderland and he passed it on to me and I've past it on to my kids.

I respect anyone who goes to matches regularly

I’d have more in common with a Liverpool fan from London who enters all their ballots and goes to five games a season but would love to get to more games if they could, then a Norwich fan (for example) who goes once every few years but “supports” their local club.

This is just getting silly now.

Wouldn't expect anything less from Reiver like, for a grown bloke he likes to get into a lot of daft petty arguments.

Likes regaling war stories from years gone by in the hooligan days but throws a hissy fit when a Portsmouth fan looks at him funny.

Very strange

I've come to the opinion that it's one rule for him and another rule for everyone else, I do have a laugh reading his posts though. Reminds me of a daft mate of mine who can never be wrong about anything
