Yeah, but they do all that, meaning that people on minimum wage can afford to live.

It would be a very lean existence of course, and it would be great if the minimum wage paid more, but it's just not feasible.

You can live on it but the minimum wage is not enough for someone to partake fully in society. especially not in the Southeast.

My understanding is that you can't claim unemployment benefits without first having to prove that you're attempting to find work. In this scenario of a 'cleaner shortage', the unemployed would have no option to take the work - earn minimum wage or get no money whatsoever.

What about people who the employer doesn't want? A lot of the unemployed are basically feckless and would do half a job, not turn up, possibly nick stuff etc. Therefore costing the employer more in the long run.
I would rather we paid these people a few quid to stay in the house.

What do you mean by that? Pubs, shopping, restaurants etc.?

I kind of agree fwiw, but it'd be hard to justify a significant increase in the minimum wage (and therefore risk the stability of small-to-medium businesses) on that basis. While having the means to fund that kind of recreation is very important, it's not a fundamental right.

During the boom, Ireland fell in the trap of increasing the minimum wage, teacher salaries etc. to unsustainable levels. It didn't end well. ;)

Transfer them to Africa on a Bosman.

how much do you think someone should be paid for mopping toilets?

I get €12.50 an hour, but that's school toilets...

And I'm an immigrant

None of the locals wanted the cleaning job, that's why I got it.....

*sound of penny dropping* I'm one of them job-stealing immigrants, me !!!

Have somewhere decent to live, cover your bills and have a few quid to enjoy life and a few quid for a rainy day

You're joking. Cleaners get more than admin staff. Usually can pick up cleaning work for £7-£10 an hour. I also know one on £25 an hour.

Not Spavin wrong???
Don't be silly Mrs. This scenario has never happened, Ever.

ours get £7 an hour like. though just a few hours a day is fuck all really

I wasn't trying to prove anybody wrong, just contributing to the discussion. Cleaners don't seem to be the lowest paid worker imo, but I guess every trade/profession/skill has some sort of market value.

Just as well really as it has never happened, ever.

So to qoute you "The living wage is a living wage" then when someone points out the top ups from tax credits etc "They do that, meaning people on minimum wage can afford to live"

The poles on these wages must be loving it when they can claim for their kids who don't live here, but are actually still back in their own country.

Some of the strictest laws in the world we have ya know.

Not sure what you're point is.

The minimum wage in the UK is a living wage as you can live on it.

The UK has a benefit system that is abused by scumbags.

The black bits in bananas are tarantula's eggs.

The UK has a benifit system that is wide open to abuse from immigrants (Also abused in other ways by our own) where they can claim for all and sundry. It's one of the reasons we are inundated with people trying to get in here. Not mega rocket science.

Did you get that last bit of information from the web?
