Where has it all gone wrong

It’s Mowbray. There’s no tactics or patterns of play, it’s just pass to Roberts and Clarke and hope they do some magic.

If they don’t let’s just chuck on all our attacking players for half an hour and let them figure it out
It’s this man. 💯

Has one way of playing, has no plan B

Can’t set up a defensive unit to save his life, same shit goals every week, they are all like carbon copies of themselves.

Play to the wingers, take on full back …

No mixing up how we play, no one running in behind, never using any of our strikers assets.

He’s got one way of playing and when it doesn’t work … he has a guess at throwing on random subs

What has happened this now not enjoyable to watch. We have known about problems with strikers for months but now the midfield is all lost and hasn't a clue, and the defence is woeful, we are guaranteed to leak a goal every week. Hume needs to be told just to concentrate on being the right back and not centre half and they both need to be told that if they go forward to overlap the wingers as soon as they have lost the ball to get back to there position.we are desperate for a seasoned championship or premier league defender or defensive midfielder to organise the defence and pull them back into position when they stray

Where has it all gone wrong?...

Mowbray thinking nothing is wrong with his tactics.

From a Mowbray standpoint;

Tactics and decisions in game have been quite mental. You want the best out of a striker then you need more dynamism than Roberts fannying about and cutting in. He had Diallo and Hume alongside in attack last season, now he's got neither, because now Hume is Norn Iron's Philly Lahm.

Doesn't know when to make subs and drop players, for the most part. His 3 or 4 subs at a time are fine when 3-0 up, but they very rarely have the desired effect.

Centre midfield you don't have that seasoned CDM we've been crying out for, which is fine but we seem to need one in this team. Considering he's got Ekwah and Neil auditioning for that very role, he must be very frustrated we didn't sign a player along them lines.

Strikers are isolated by lack of early crosses and through balls, we piss about and aren't direct enough from deep, when we find the front we are a tad late to capitalise on the gaps.

From a fans standpoint;

We've endured shit for many years.

This is the total opposite to shit, this is just poor form, it'll get better eventually, but we don't see that because we know this squad is so much better than the last three games.

Even with that said we are big f***ing babies, demanding a solid manager who has been good for us be sacked after 3 defeats in a row, despite winning 3 in a row earlier this season. During that stint we weren't great but we thrashed Southampton, go over the line against QPR and lucked past Blackburn.

The key is though, all season we haven't been great. We've had sensational spells in games, think we were a whirlwind opening day against Ipswich, at times against Birmingham and Southampton and even Leicester we showed we could be top 6 at a canter.

Fans aren't sure of Speakman, he's made some major moves and duffed it with cdm and striker. I believe he made a brilliant decision appointing Mowbray and eventually, he'll find the man we need to take us to the next level. Someone who will really turn Roberts and Ekwah into top Championship players.

In conclusion; Get behind Mowbray till he leaves.

Good post - but - decision to appoint Mowbray was a Committee decision.

Teams are giving us a lot more respect than they used to. They sit back and ask us to break them down which we're incapable of doing because we don't get the ball in to dangerous plays often enough.

The strikers feed off scraps and we're a soft-touch at the back.
Common sense and a sensible perspective.
Some people aren't going to like this type of realistic coutlook..
Mowbrays lack of a functioning brain
ridiculous.

Passing is far too slow and out pressing seems to have stopped. Lack of urgency all round to be honest.

I can't understand this. Some of the forward passing play last season was absolutely fantastic and it seems to have vanished.

Hate to say it but I think it's largely down to new signings being poor. But even then the same spine of the team is there and just doesn't seem to work like it did last season.
The irony is, that this time last season, after 19 games, we were...lower in the table and had fewer points. So you could argue we're doing better this time. Fair to say we had a slump in November last year too. Maybe its the young lads not coping well with the colder weather or something?

Really interesting. From memory, Amad only really started to come good around this point. He made a huge difference in the end. I don't think now we have that to look forward to.

We have no decent striker , and the wingers know this also , plenty possession with little end product

I dont think the confidence factor should be ignored.

Since we went down this extreme youth policy they've generally bounced back well from defeats and not got on an extended bad run - until now.

The club need to be really careful. If a team of extreme youth get on a really bad run it might be difficult to turn it around.

They have to fork out for some experience in January.

Great point

We are a young team lacking a bit of confidence which brings a drop in form. This has also played a massive part over the last few weeks with our results. Systems, striker's and sometimes bad luck have also played a part. It's to be expected from a bunch of very young players learning on the job. We all want a winning team but some of the negative comments on here regarding Hume, Ekwah, Roberts etc are way ott and down right stupid..

Thanks - it's the recruitment part that worries me - sounds well educated but likes the sound of his own voice. Think he is out of his depth with 1st team recruitment tbh especially from abroad.
I'm still dumbfounded when people think this. The recruitment is light years ahead of what we have had ever.
The premier years of buying old players like wes brown / John O'Shea (good as they may be - on big money with no sell on fees). Few young players, but notable ones like jack Rodwell.
When it was apparent that this strategy of getting players in with no sell on fee was making us go bankrupt, Di fanti had a go and was horrendous in nearly all his signings.

Relegation and debt after letting Moyes get in anchibe and piennar and djillibodji and love (😱😱) and then all the hideous experienced league one signings of Methven and Donald , and at last we have signings that are good.
They all won't work out, some will take time, but it's a plan at least.
We've made money on one already.
I'm nearly 50 and can count on one hand the signings we have profited from (Phillips, pva, bent ? and er, erm , help us out?)

Some people have short memories. It's been 2 poor performances in a row.
This squad untill those games have given us some of the best performances and exciting play I've seen in a Sunderland team ever. And it's all down to the recruitment.

We knew he was going to be a miss but i didnt realise just how much. The one player who had that genuine bit of magic and end product. Our build up play is so slow at times. I get we're a possesion based team but get the feeling we hold onto the ball for holding on's sake at times even when there's a quick pass on into space.

Teams are giving us a lot more respect than they used to. They sit back and ask us to break them down which we're incapable of doing because we don't get the ball in to dangerous plays often enough.

No 'striker' has scored for 200 + days

He’s attempting to do it on the cheap as instructed. With an unlimited budget I doubt he’d be recruiting the players he’s recruited from abroad or indeed here.

He doesn’t sign the players!! TM just has to do his best with the young lads he is given. Must be equally frustrating for him. Just keep the faith as the club is in a far better position than recent history and going in right direction overall

A centre forward that can score 15 - 20 goals per season. We would be sitting comfortably in the play offs now and Mowbray would still be everyone's favourite smoggie. Unfortunately goalscorers will cost money and we won't break away from the model. I'm expecting a few more years of this.

1. Got rid of our player of the year 6ft 3 centre half.
2. Refused to replace our experienced defensive midfielder and club captain who will be injured most of the season.
3. Refused to sign a proven goalscorer at this level.

Pretty simple really.
