basically what happens when you go without food for a few hours. while you are sleeping your body isnt getting any sustenance for around 8 hours so it can start to break down your muscle fibres. not really that big a deal unless you are working out in the gym and want your muscles to repair effectively while you sleep.

Isn't sleep actually the peak time for digestion of what's in your gut? So you'd still have fuel for a while yet.
