They're very popular in Oz.
They have a variation of pies & peas, called a Pie Floater.
It's basically a meat pie submerged upside down in a thick pea soup.
I had one when I was in Sydney, back in 1992.
Not as good, imho, as our traditional pies & mushy peas, but tasty nonetheless.

Granted, sicilians would use raisins, but i didn't have any, so substituted sultanas

Neither belong there imo but recognise it’s appropriate to use them. Not a fan of either but especially not in hot savoury recipes. Can tolerate a few in a pud but not a mince pie, urgh!

My missus loves them. I do most of the cooking, i can knock something up, and she'll say, you know what this is missing? A few sultanas.
