Squad v India:

Quite surprised that Root isn't in the squad.
 


I thought Root was in the squad because Bairstow had pulled out due to an illness in the family.

I think they'll play Bresnan and Tredwell will get the nod as the specialist spinner as he's done a good job for us in the past. Don't think I'd want to rely on Patel bowling 10 overs but I don't think there's much choice there, lacking a genuine all rounder imo.
 
In the following order

Cook
Bell
Pietersen
Morgan
Patel
Butler
Keiswetter
Tredwell
Meaker
Finn
Briggs or woakes depending on the pitch

Bairstow is on compassionate leave so not available. The only surprise is why Luke wright is not in this squad

Because he wouldn't get in the top 6 you listed and Bairstow and Root will play a lot more for England in the future than he will.

If it had been the tour to New Zealand he might have got the nod ahead of Patel for the extra seam option.
 
Disagree better than josh buttler, Bairstow, root and Patel also offers something with the ball. He's clearly turned a corner with his batting and needs to be rewarded
 
What's happened to Owais Shah? Last i heard he was doing well in The Big Bash (fair enough it's t20) Why is he never involved in our shorter format squads?

Edit: Actually just seen his recent performances in T20 and it's been poor. Ignore me. I know as much as Essex Boy.

I remember about 7 years ago him and Vikram Solanki were supposed to be the answer to our lack of inventiveness in the batting lineup. Now we can't get enough of the bloody paddle scoop players!

Currently 101-6 chasing 229. I think if Cook doesn't come in for a quick that batting line up looks at least 1 batsman too light, too many bits and pieces players, no genuine all-rounder there.

Cook in for Bresnan. Dernbach played well in the warmup.
